Digital Textile and Printing Technician

As a digital textile and printing technician based in the vibrant city of Atlanta, Ga., you will troubleshoot technical issues and provide exceptional customer service to enhance the learning environment. You will assist faculty and staff with instructional demonstrations on proper equipment use and lead tours upon request.

To support the university’s mission — preparing talented students for creative professions through engaged teaching and learning in a positive university environment — you’ll:

• Maintain the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of lab equipment and spaces; provide outstanding customer service; and anticipate and enforce all lab policies, procedures, and safety protocols
• Understand and explain all digital textiles lab technologies, including fabric and dye types, how they function, and best practices for successful implementation
• Mentor student employees and train them on the proper use and care of all lab equipment
• Communicate with support, resource, and material vendors and suppliers
• Ensure billing is accurate and paperwork is promptly processed

As part of the physical resources administration department, you’ll:

• Demonstrate safe and correct operation of lab equipment; maintain equipment to ensure functionality and efficient operations; report all equipment concerns and repair needs to the lab manager; and perform light maintenance and thorough cleanings
• Conduct quarterly inventories; unload and restock consumables; prepare recyclable returns; and provide inventory data or reports to the lead technician
• Comply with all established safety policies, procedures, and workflows for all lab equipment, and attend all university-sponsored safety and security training sessions
• Inform students and faculty about file setup and equipment requirements; troubleshoot issues; and assist with challenging projects
• Communicate standards, technology requirement changes, or updates to students and faculty, and advise students on basic fabrication issues and project completion

Additionally, you’ll:

• Oversee equipment security
• Always maintain professionalism
• Work across all SCAD lab spaces as needed
• Provide backup support during periods of high demand
• Participate in the university’s special projects and events as needed

Minimum qualifications:

• High school diploma
• At least one year of experience in a related field
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
• Familiarity with the fabric dyeing process and post-processing equipment

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Prior experience in an educational environment, particularly in a lab, workshop, or textile lab
• Experience with digital printing equipment, techniques, fabrics, and other materials or substrates

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
