Job Title:Director of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Technology

Department:Pharmacy | Education and Innovation

The Director of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Technology provides leadership for the College of Pharmacy's instructional support enterprise, ensuring that faculty and academic programs receive coordinated, high-quality support across all teaching modalities and educational programs. The Director oversees a multidisciplinary team responsible for instructional design, educational technology, course operations, and accessibility services. In partnership with faculty, program directors, and college leadership, the Director establishes strategic priorities, allocates resources, and advances initiatives that strengthen teaching effectiveness, learning experiences, and educational innovation.

Core Duties

• Provides strategic leadership and oversight for the new Office of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Technology.
• Leads college efforts related to educational technology, in-person and online learning, digital accessibility, AI-related instructional initiatives, and course quality.
• Establishes the office's vision, priorities, service portfolio, and annual work plan in alignment with college goals.
• Supervises and develops professional staff across learning design, educational coordination, and accessibility functions.
• Manages project prioritization, resource allocation, and workload distribution.
• Partners with academic leadership, faculty, IT, Ohio State Online, and university support offices to advance instructional quality and innovation.
• Monitors and assesses office performance, communicate outcomes, and lead continuous improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in instructional design, learning technologies, educational leadership, higher education administration, curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
• Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience supporting teaching and learning in higher education or a similarly complex educational environment.

Experience in:

• Leading instructional design, educational technology, faculty support, online learning, or academic support initiatives.
• Supervising professional staff and managing complex projects and service portfolios.
• Collaborating with faculty, academic leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of instructional design principles, evidence-based teaching practices, and educational technologies.
• Understanding of online, hybrid, and face-to-face instructional environments.
• Familiarity with Canvas, EchoVideo, H5P, Top Hat, ExamSoft, learning analytics platforms, and other learning technologies.
• Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and Universal Design for Learning principles.
• Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships across stakeholder groups.
• Ability to analyze data, assess program effectiveness, and make evidence-informed decisions.

Desired Qualifications

Doctoral degree (EdD, PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field or a master’s degree with at least 12 years of experience supporting teaching and learning in higher education or a similarly complex educational environment.

Experience in:

• Directing an instructional design, educational technology, faculty development, or academic support unit.
• Supporting health sciences, professional, clinical, or other specialized academic programs.
• Developing service metrics, operational dashboards, and continuous improvement processes.

Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $111,000 - $145,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.

The College of Pharmacy believes in a healthy work/life balance, therefore, the work arrangement for this position is hybrid (i.e., remote and in-office), subject to change based upon the needs of the organization and as determined by College Leadership.
