JOB SUMMARY

THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

SNU offers B.S. degrees in biology, biology-chemistry (as a joint major with the Department of Chemistry), and environmental science. SNU Biology is housed within the JD & Mary West Science Laboratory Building. SNU is committed to offering a variety of quality coursework to prepare students for successful admission into graduate and professional programs. In addition, SNU Biology serves students from the School of Nursing and the School of Kinesiology in a joint effort to prepare SNU graduates for the workforce and/or graduate/professional programs in science-related fields.

The West Science Building also houses the newly expanded SNU cadaver lab which is used for students studying human anatomy in lower and upper division undergraduate courses as well as in the upcoming Physician Assistant program at SNU set to matriculate students in January 2027 (pending ARC-PA accreditation). Southern Nazarene University (SNU) invites applications for a one-semester open-rank visiting professor position in the Department of Biology to teach Human Physiology beginning January 2027. The successful candidate may be considered for a full-time appointment in the 2027-2028 academic year. Rank will be determined by degree and experience. Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue until the position is filled.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

• Serves as course coordinator and instructor for sophomore-level Human Physiology lecture and associated laboratory sections which contribute primarily to Nursing and Kinesiology department programs.
• Fosters a welcoming and supportive learning environment through dynamic in-person pedagogy and open communication with students.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: M.S. or higher degree in biology or a related field
• Exhibits passion for in-person undergraduate teaching and mentoring in a Christian liberal arts university in the Wesleyan tradition where the integration of faith and learning is encouraged and expected.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in biology or related field. PhD candidates (ABD) will be considered.
• Undergraduate teaching experience is strongly desired.
• An aptitude for using technology to facilitate learning (e.g., experience with online MLS and homework platforms, online teaching experience, flipping the classroom, etc.).
• The ideal candidate eligible for consideration of full-time employment in the 2027-2028 academic year would also hold experience in teaching human anatomy (with cadaver dissection preferred).
Supervision Received:
Receives supervision and work assignments from the Biology Department Chair.

Supervision Exercised:
May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for student teaching assistants.
