The Department of Engineering Science in the Gupta College of Science and Engineering at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2027 in support of its Engineering Science program. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil, Ocean, Coastal, Environmental engineering, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Proven expertise and research interests in the field of Ocean/Coastal engineering are required. Special preference will be given to applicants with interdisciplinary qualifications or experience.

Applicants must be teacher-scholars who will establish research agendas that involve undergraduate students and teach introductory engineering courses, as well as upper-level courses in their area of expertise. The position also requires engaging engineering students through active advising and mentoring of extracurricular groups. Start-up funds will be available to establish a research agenda that incorporates undergraduate students.

Coastal Carolina University is a public comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort city of Myrtle Beach. The Burroughs and Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies within the Gupta College of Science and Engineering also offers the potential for collaboration with faculty engaged in related coastal and marine research issues. The University also manages the Waites Island Anne Tilghman Boyce Coastal Reserve, an undeveloped complex of ocean frontage, fresh and saltwater marshes, tidal creeks, and upland forests, that provides a living laboratory for both teaching and research opportunities.

Teaches students in the classroom and/or laboratory.

Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.

Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Conducts research to create and add knowledge in a field, including the advancement of new theories and principles to improve educational effectiveness. Trains students in related research techniques.
