Faculty Position in Ethics (Open Rank)

Emory University’s Candler School of Theology invites applications and nominations for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Ethics. Rank is open. The successful candidate will hold a PhD or its equivalent in Ethics or a related field by the time of appointment in the fall semester of 2027. Preference will be given to complete applications submitted by October 21, 2026. Candler School of Theology carries a proud legacy in the fields of Christian theological and social ethics, one shaped by scholarly attention to rigorous moral inquiry and debates in public theology and social justice. We seek a faculty member who will build on this legacy and imagine new directions in the field. We welcome applications from scholars pursuing innovative and intersectional approaches to moral challenges and possibilities in church, religion, and public life. Methods and thematic foci might include, but are not limited to, ethnography, aesthetics, ecology, visual and material culture, technology, AI, health, economics, politics, civil and human rights, and law. The person selected for this position will develop and teach courses in several of the degree programs of Candler School of Theology, including the MDiv, MTS, MARL, and DMin programs. The successful candidate will display the capacity to contribute to a broad theological curriculum and situate ethics within larger ecumenical, multi-faith, and global contexts. Candidates should be prepared to teach a wide range of students in both online and in-person modalities. The appointee will have regular faculty rotation in the school’s Contextual Education program. Appointees with a substantial research and publication agenda can apply to participate in the Graduate Division of Religion in the Laney Graduate School of Emory University. In addition to teaching and research, faculty members of Candler School of Theology are committed to service, both within the school and in the larger church and community.
