Job Summary:Under general supervision, performs plumbing and related work of moderate difficulty. May work independently and assist others.
Essential Duties:- Studies building plans and working drawings to determine supplies and tools required, and sequence of installations; plans and organizes work to ensure completion of tasks and functions in an efficient and timely manner.
- Locates and marks position of pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using tape measure, spirit level, and plumb bob; cuts openings in walls and floors , using hand tools and power tools.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains water, gas, air, sewer lines and systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Connects and maintains hot water units, water heaters, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
- Installs and maintains a variety of controls, including mixing valves, temperature control valves, PRV’s and related.
- Installs and repairs a variety of pumps and related systems. Opens clogged drains and toilets.
- Repairs and maintains valves, faucets, traps, sinks, washbowls, vents, and toilet fixtures.
- Joins pipe by using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, PEX, and Pro Press piping.
- Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe threading machine; bends pipe to required angle by using pipe bending machine or bending by hand.
- Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine if system is leaking.
- Notifies management concerning the need for major repair projects; prepares supply requirement lists and forwards to supervisor.
- Attends training, seminars, and other meetings as needed.
- Performs after hour, holiday and weekend repairs on a rotating on call schedule and as needed in the event of emergencies.

- Ability to interpret and work from building plans, rough sketches and drawings.
- Ability to plan and lay out installation and/or repair projects.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete work as assigned.
- Ability to understand and utilize installation and maintenance manuals, procedures and other related materials.
- Skilled in the use of the standard tools, equipment, and machines of the plumbing trade.
Equipment Utilized: Maintenance vehicle, backhoe, trencher, hand tools, soldering tools, tape measure, power tools, pipe cutters, threading machines, PEX, Pro Press and pressure gauges.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of high school, vocational school, or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities for successful performance in the position.
- Five years of plumbing experience.
- State of Texas Journeyman plumber’s license
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance company.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and criminal background check.
- Position requires frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending, and occasional crawling, climbing and lifting (up to 80 lbs.).
- Basic manual dexterity with both hands is required.
- Incumbent works both indoors and out doors and is exposed to dust, heat, cold, and varying climatic conditions.

History
The institution was founded in 1928 as San Angelo Junior College and then changed the name to San Angelo College in 1932. The campus was moved from its original downtown location to its current site in 1948. By an act of the 58th Session of the Texas Legislature, the institution was designated as Angelo State College in 1965, the year it became a four-year, state-supported institution. The name was changed to Angelo State University in 1969. On Sept. 1, 2007, Angelo State University became a member of the Texas Tech University System.
Academics
Angelo State offers on-campus and online courses through six colleges: Arts and Humanities; Business; Education; Health and Human Services; Science and Engineering; and Graduate Studies and Research. The university is recognized for its strong undergraduate programs overall, and its computer science and commercial aviation programs recently earned prestigious certifications from the National Security Agency and Federal Aviation Administration, respectively. ASU also features a vibrant Honors Program, support programs for first-generation and former foster care students, and a thriving Center for International Studies.
The university is also known for incorporating faculty-mentored research into many undergraduate offerings. Campus
Angelo State University’s campus is situated on 274 acres in the center of San Angelo and is lined with native live oak and pecan trees. In addition to being one of the prettiest campuses in the region, it is one of the safest in Texas and features ultramodern facilities with state-of-the-art technology support. ASU is home to one of only two State of Texas Data Centers, which provide sophisticated computer processing and disaster recovery services for agencies and universities, and to the state’s first Regional Security Operations Center that provides cybersecurity services for municipal and state agencies and private entities.
