The College of Law’s Administrative Services Department is hiring for a Staff Assistant I. This is a full-time staff position. This position provides general office support with a variety of administrative activities and related tasks. This position serves as receptionist for deans, faculty and administrative staff for the College of Law. This position manages a multi-line message center; receives and directs incoming calls; greets students, faculty, staff and other patrons; receives and routes certified mail packages and other materials for faculty, staff, and students; answers general inquiries and directs visitors to appropriate business offices within the Law School and University.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

Serves as initial point of contact for faculty and administrative staff and manages multi-line telephone system.

Grants access to permitted visitors for special area parking.

Receives and routes certified mail packages and other materials for faculty, staff, and students.

Coordinates and maintains tracking system for pick-up and delivery of express mail packages.

Sorts mail and delivers packages. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Organizes and keeps supplies stocked for copy rooms and kitchens.

Distributes monthly departmental telephone statements.

Maintains general security by following departmental procedures and controlling visitor access.

Position may, on occasion, be required to arrive early or remain late for special events.

 



Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and one year of receptionist or customer service experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Professional demeanor and appearance.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise and ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.

Students have many choices in extracurricular activities including more than 22 fraternities and sororities; and some 250 chartered student groups, including 60 degree-related student groups, seven religious, 24 law-oriented and 22 multicultural/international groups; and 10 honor societies. There is also an active student government association which includes the student senate and the judicial board.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
