Department Information

The School of Physics at Georgia Tech currently has 63 academic (Tenure Track and Non-Tenure Track) and research faculty, and its graduate program is ranked 21st in the nation by US News & World Report. The School of Physics has a broad research program with strengths in astrophysics, condensed matter, atomic, molecular, and optical physics, physics of living systems, nonlinear science, and soft matter physics. The School of Physics is also a key player in interdisciplinary initiatives established within Georgia Tech, such as quantum systems, neuroscience, microbial dynamics, planetary sciences, and data science/machine learning. Its diverse student body comprises more than 130 graduate students and 275 undergraduate majors.

Job Summary

The Financial Analyst role will develop and compile financial data and conduct analyses, reconciliation and projection in support of departments. This role will prepare a full range of financial related reports, which may include cost studies, budget forecast and modeling, and other tools.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Use data entry, calculations, estimates, reconciliations, reports, etc. in order to achieve results of data needed for analysis. This may be inclusive of projects, programs, or other initiatives where data analysis is needed. Run reports as needed.

Job Duty 2 -
Determine, develop, organize and streamline data to be used for completion in financial analysis. Provide review and approval of financial documents, transactions, etc.

Job Duty 3 -
Prepare forecasts and analysis of trends in general business conditions and other related areas.

Job Duty 4 -
Analyze and verify funding sources to ensure appropriate spending and billing practices.

Job Duty 5 -
Provide results of analysis and methodology used to determine results.

Job Duty 6 -
Remain current on financial reporting (internal to organization) and external, applicable regulations, processes, etc.

Job Duty 7 -
May be responsible for performing assigned financial audit functions; based on results from financial analysis to problem solve complex issues.

Job Duty 8 -
Prepare financial summaries and any other specialized reports for presentation.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience
No prior relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience
One year of direct job experience.

Prior experience in higher education.

Proposed Salary

Salary Range: 55,000 - $65,000/yr

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
Application of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices; basic financial analysis and forecasting techniques; use of financial/accounting related software. Preferred skills: Application of specialized skills within a university or government agency environment; ability to apply knowledge of regulations and reporting requirements specific to area of involvement.
