Job Summary

The Diesel Instructional Assistant role supports Diesel Technology faculty in delivering safe, effective, hands-on instruction by preparing and maintaining instructional laboratories, equipment, tools, vehicles, and materials; reinforcing faculty-led instruction and demonstrations; assisting students as they practice assigned competencies; monitoring students’ adherence to established safety procedures; and providing faculty with observations regarding student progress and support needs. The Instructional Assistant works under the direction of faculty and does not independently determine curriculum, assign grades, evaluate final competency achievement, or replace the faculty member’s responsibility for instruction and assessment.

This position is funded by a grant which has a projected grant end date of June 30, 2028. Funding for this position beyond this date is dependent upon budget and operational needs.

This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week, 33 weeks per year.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Prepare laboratories, vehicles, tools, equipment, parts, and instructional materials for scheduled learning activities.

• Assist faculty during classroom, laboratory, and hands-on learning experiences.

• Reinforce previously taught Diesel-Math concepts and demonstrate in lab procedures as directed by faculty.

• Provide individual or small-group assistance to students practicing assigned skills.

• Promote safe work practices and immediately address or report unsafe conditions and behaviors.

• Help students properly use, clean, organize, and return tools and equipment.

• Maintain an orderly, professional, and industry-relevant learning environment.

• Perform routine equipment checks and communicate maintenance, repair, supply, and inventory needs.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education:High School Education / GED

Associate degree in a related field preferred.

Experience: 3 Years

Additional Experience Information:

At least 3 years’ experience in the Diesel Equipment repair industry.Must be astute in Math calculations as related to diesel repair.

Ability to actively listen, discern key information, and respond professionally; ask follow up or clarifying questions to diffuse escalated situations and offer appropriate problem resolution when necessary.
