Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The mission of the Dean of Students Office is to initiate learner-centered programs and services that foster a culture of care conducive to academic and personal development.

Position Summary:

This Assistant Dean of Students (Case Manager) position is primarily responsible for the case management and outreach functions of both the Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT) and the Erase Hate campaign. The multidisciplinary Behavioral Assessment Team focuses on early intervention strategies for students who may be at risk of harming themselves or pose a significant disruption to the living, learning, or work environment. This position serves on the Behavioral Assessment Team and is responsible for managing case intake information, engaging in ongoing case evaluations, coordinating follow-up with active and inactive cases, providing updates regarding concerning and disruptive behavior, soliciting pertinent information from campus partners to support informed decision making, and maintaining continuity of care across service providers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Relevant Master’s degree required; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and relevant experience in substitution.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-master’s full-time experience and higher education or similar setting where the applicant contributes to student wellbeing and success within a higher education setting.
  • Successful candidates must have the ability to work effectively in teams and individually in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work appropriately and adapt quickly to changing priorities as well as work independently on multiple tasks and deal effectively with conflicting priorities.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices around diversity, inclusion, and other related topics, student case management, crisis management, student conduct and familiarity with restorative justice and other related practices.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present and facilitate training. Candidates must have a willingness to work some evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand the University environment, work collaboratively with on and off-campus partners, and build and sustain relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, parents/families, and community partners to address a wide array of situations.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information and situations with diplomacy, exercising excellent judgment that is congruent with federal, state, and university policy.
  • Superior critical thinking and organization skills and experience developing and administering assessment tools.

Essential Tasks:

  • Provide support and advocacy to students while promoting student well-being, retention, and success, including, but not limited to bias and campus climate concerns.
  • Serve as a resource to students, faculty, staff, and families by assisting with the resolution of student concerns, interpreting University policies and procedures, making appropriate referrals, and connecting students with campus and community resources.
  • Assist students experiencing distress, hardship, or other challenges that may impact their academic and personal success.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support student needs and contribute to a culture of care through outreach, consultation, and intervention efforts.

  • Lead case management efforts for the Behavioral Assessment Team by managing referrals, conducting information gathering, assessing student needs, coordinating support resources, monitoring active cases, and collaborating with campus partners to promote student well-being and continuity of care.
  • Provide consultation and support regarding students exhibiting concerning behaviors and assist in implementing appropriate intervention and follow-up strategies.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and campus and community partners to support student well-being, success, and continuity of care.
  • Consult with university stakeholders regarding students of concern, facilitate appropriate referrals and resource connections, and coordinate support efforts to address complex student needs.
  • Develop and present educational programs, trainings, and outreach initiatives related to student support, students in distress, and available campus resources.
  • Serve on university committees and multidisciplinary teams as assigned, and foster collaborative partnerships that promote a culture of care and enhance the student experience.

  • Directly co-supervise one graduate assistant and provide leadership, training, mentorship, and performance feedback to support professional development and departmental goals.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and evaluation of graduate student staff.
  • Collaborate with the graduate assistant on initiatives related to student support, outreach, and departmental operations while ensuring effective service delivery and a positive learning experience.
