Duties:Part-time, non-credit Continuing Education instructor
Moraine Valley Community College Community and Continuing Education is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable part-time Veterinary Assistant Instructor to teach non-credit courses for adult learners. This is a NAVTA approved program that includes hands-on instruction in veterinary assisting fundamentals, and clinical experiences with local partners in the area. The instructor will create a supportive learning environment that prepares students for entry-level opportunities in veterinary settings.
- Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on instruction for adult learners.
- Demonstrate proper animal handling, restraint, safety, sanitation, and basic veterinary procedures.
- Provide instruction on veterinary terminology, anatomy and physiology, patient care, and workplace professionalism.
- Prepare lesson plans, demonstrations, activities, and other instructional materials.
- Monitor student participation and provide constructive feedback to support student learning.
- Maintain a safe and professional learning environment.
- Stay current with industry standards, veterinary practices, and relevant regulations.
- Communicate effectively with Continuing Education staff regarding course needs, student progress, and program requirements; and other duties as needed for the role.
- Current, active Veterinarian license or Veterinary Technician (Vet Tech) license required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in veterinary medicine, veterinary technology, or a related animal-care setting.
- Current professional credentials and/or licensure must remain in good standing throughout the period of instruction.
Qualifications:
- Previous teaching, training, coaching, or instructional experience required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with animal handling, restraint, patient care, safety, sanitation, and veterinary procedures.
- Ability to provide hands-on demonstrations and effectively explain technical concepts to adult learners.
- Ability to develop or adapt lesson plans, instructional materials, and hands-on learning activities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom-management skills.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching veterinary assistant, veterinary technician, or animal-care courses.
- Experience working in a veterinary hospital, clinic, animal shelter, or other professional veterinary setting.
- Experience developing curriculum or training materials for adult learners.
- Familiarity with current veterinary industry practices and entry-level veterinary assistant competencies.
Position Status:
Part Time Temporary
Hours:Part-time, non-credit Continuing Education instructor. Flexible schedule, instructor set schedule for course. Location may include Main, Tinley Park SWEC campus.
Salary/Wage:$50-60.00/hour
