Complex Director in Residence Life Office

 

Buffalo State, State University of New York, seeks candidates for the position of Complex Director in Residence Life Office

 

The Complex Director (CD) is a 12-month live-in appointment and is a frontline manager/educator of the student population in one or more residence halls. A primary focus of the CD is the development of a residential theme area, which may include the first-year experience, upper-class housing, or apartments.

 

Responsibilities of the CD include:

 

  • supervision, training, and development of undergraduate student staff and graduate assistants;
  • community development;
  • 24-hour crisis intervention;
  • provide educational and social programming for the residential
  • population;
  • community council advisor;
  • facilities management;
  • serve as a conduct officer for student conduct and community standards and a special advising assignment.
  • Included among work and on-call responsibilities are emergency and crisis response duties, including those that occur after traditional business hours and on weekends. This position is considered an essential-critical position.
  • Summer responsibilities will be assigned, such as summer hall director, conference director, or roles in other summer projects

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Project Manager, with responsibility for scope, schedule, stakeholder communication, and delivery of projects of moderate complexity.
  • Demonstrated written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills, including the ability to coordinate work across teams.
  • Demonstrated experience using project management and collaboration tools, such as Microsoft 365 and common project management platforms (e.g., MS Project, Trello, Monday.com).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Experience working in Information Technology environments, including managing IT‑based projects and familiarity with IT service management concepts (e.g., ITIL).
  • Project management certification, such as PMP or CAPM (or equivalent).
  • Experience managing projects of significant scope and complexity, including multiple concurrent projects, extended timelines, and cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience working with senior‑level executives and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a Project Management Office (PMO) or within established project governance frameworks.
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex, multi‑stakeholder organizations.
  • Strong customer‑focused and team‑oriented skills, including team building, motivation, problem‑solving, and effective time management.
