Position Summary

The Senior Assistant Director for Compliance, Policies, and Liaisonships provides strategic leadership for first-year and transfer enrollment processes within Undergraduate Admission. The individual is responsible for developing and implementing compliance with federal, state, university and campus rules and regulations, coordinates all communication and admission decisions between Undergraduate Admission and specialty and talent-based schools, e.g. Arts and Architecture, School of Engineering, School of Nursing, School of Music, and Theatre Film and Television. This position oversees all aspects of post-decision inquiries including but not limited to change/drop in grades, missing transcripts, deferral requests, and when needed, rescinding admission decisions. This involves leading and delivery of comprehensive training for staff involved in each process, and requires coordination across multiple units within UA and communication with campus partners to support a timely and consistent process. The incumbent must be able to interact with staff, students, and parents with sensitivity and discretion while maintaining confidentiality at all times. As a subject-matter expert in domestic and international credential evaluation, the Senior Assistant Director independently interprets complex admission requirements and determines acceptance of transfer coursework from California Community Colleges, UC Campuses and other 4 year institutions in California, out-of-state institutions, and foreign universities. This individual serves on the Admission Resource Team and assists with the training and certification of first year readers The position supervises professional staff, contributes to campus and UC systemwide committees and policy initiatives, and serves as a key resource to Undergraduate Admission leadership.

Qualifications

3+ of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)

In-depth, extensive knowledge and experience in interpretation of the complex requirements for admission to the University of California. (Preferred)

Demonstrated supervisory skills for training, delegating responsibility, and evaluating performance. (Required)

Demonstrated effective management of complex projects with ability to meet established deadlines. (Required)

Knowledge of University-wide and campus principles and policies which govern first year and transfer admission. Skill in evaluating various types of academic records, including international records. (Required)

Demonstrated ability to represent UCLA's interests in group settings, including conferences and faculty meetings, in a professional, thorough and tactful manner on complex issues, promoting goodwill and support for UCLA and the objectives of the Undergraduate Admission office. (Required)

Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of UCLA/UC/California Community College courses to interpret equivalencies. Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions regarding transfer of work from other institutions and course equivalencies. (Preferred)

Demonstrated ability to prepare reports, documents and correspondence that is clearly written, well organized, accurate, complete, professional in appearance, and sensitive to a broad constituency including students and professional colleagues, e.g. UCLA/UC/community college faculty and administrators. (Required)

Demonstrated skill in analyzing data, problems, situations, practices and/or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, and formulate logical and objective conclusions. (Required)

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction to professional staff, including assigning work, providing guidance, and supporting staff performance and development. (Required)

Demonstrated ability to be flexible in applying guidelines in unique or individual instances. (Required)

Demonstrated ability to function and participate as part of a team, including demonstrated ability to prepare and implement training programs. (Required)

Demonstrated analytical skills to evaluate applications, consider implications of the process and make recommendations for change. (Required)

Excellent interpersonal skills, sensitivity to the needs of a diverse prospective student population, a commitment to quality teamwork, and initiative, independence, and motivation are required. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree with 3+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)

Advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) from an accredited U.S. college or university (Preferred)
