Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Department Information

The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers dynamic opportunities for language learning and cultural exploration. With a focus on 13 languages, global cultural studies, and intercultural competence, we equip students with the skills needed for success in a globalized world. Our faculty provide cutting-edge teaching and research to prepare students for professional careers in diverse international contexts.

The Department is committed to:

• Developing students' linguistic and cultural proficiency in second or third languages for professional use.
• Promoting interdisciplinary scholarship in world language education, cultural studies, literary theory, linguistics, translation studies, and film.
• Enhancing the University's international presence through faculty expertise in service, community engagement, and interdisciplinary programs.
  

We offer two B.A. programs: Modern Language and Culture and Asian Studies. The Modern Language and Culture major includes tracks in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish, with concentrations in Second Language and Culture, Teacher Certification, Applied Business, and Cross-disciplinary Perspectives. The Asian Studies major explores the interactions of Asian cultures, emphasizing both tradition and transformation. Our many Minors in various languages and cultural studies, along with our Critical Languages Program, provide additional opportunities for cultural and linguistic enrichment.

Radow College of Humanities & Social Sciences is dedicated to pioneering workforce readiness in the humanities and social sciences. Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Korean in the Department of World Languages and Cultures with a preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Teach primarily Korean-language and culture courses from beginning through advanced undergraduate levels, as well as additional undergraduate courses based on expertise and program needs in the Asian Studies program and/or upper-level English-medium Korean culture courses in the BA in Modern Languages and Cultures program. The baseline teaching load is 3/3 for the academic year.
• Develop and maintain a high-quality, active program of research and scholarly publication.
• Use effective, evidence-informed and proficiency-oriented approaches to language teaching and contribute to the Korean-language curriculum, materials development, and assessment.
• Mentor students and contribute to the continued development, visibility, recruitment, and retention efforts of the Korean program and related interdisciplinary programs, as appropriate.
• Participate in service to the department, college, university, profession, and relevant Korean/Asian Studies initiatives.
• Seek external funding to support research and teaching.
• Teaching may occur on the Kennesaw and/or the Marietta campus.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

• An earned doctorate, or the foreign equivalent in Korean or a closely related discipline is required at the time of hire.
• Postsecondary experience in Korean language and culture instruction, including as instructor of record, teaching assistant, or in an equivalent role, and demonstrated potential for effective, evidence-informed pedagogy across multiple proficiency levels, as shown by syllabi, course materials, or similar documentation

• Native or near-native proficiency in Korean and English.

• Demonstrated active program of research and scholarship, as evidenced by publications, presentations, etc.

• Previous teaching experience.

7. Evidence of Teaching Effectiveness (e.g., summary of teaching evaluations, letter of support that attests to teaching potential or abilities, documented feedback from presentations, workshops, etc.)
8. Scholarly Writing Sample with one scholarly writing sample, which may be a published article, accepted or submitted manuscript, dissertation chapter, or other discipline-appropriate scholarly work. (Upload as Additional Documents)
