Security Guard 1

Salary: $22.51 - 30.11* Per Hour

Classification: Part-time Hourly

Reports to: Lieutenant Campus Security


This position will remain open for a minimum of seven (7) days. The College reserves the right to close the recruitment at any time after the minimum posting period once a sufficient applicant pool has been established. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A.

This position is expected to work not more than 18 hours a week; days and hours will vary depending on the current needs of the department and is not eligible for benefits.


The purpose for this position is to ensure the safety & security of students, staff, and visitors on campus. Security Guard 1 help to prevent crime, respond to emergencies, and enforce campus rules and regulations. By patrolling the grounds monitoring access to building and creates a safe learning environment.

Essential Functions

  • Patrol a designated area on foot or in a patrol vehicle to enforce institution rules and regulations, local, state, and federal statues, laws and ordinances.
  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and surroundings for signs of prowlers, fire, property damage, or any other anomalies.
  • Provide First Aid when necessary.
  • Monitor areas suspected of criminal or disruptive activity.
  • Operate departmental communication and technical equipment.
  • Use a two-way portable radio for communication.
  • Answer departmental desk phone and duty cell phone for service requests.
  • Respond to emergency alerts from the college’s phone system.
  • Assist city police officers, county deputy sheriffs or Washington State Patrol troopers in cases of emergency.
  • Provide information to local law enforcement upon request.
  • Assist law enforcement with obtaining video footage on a crime on campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, in the field environment, away from institution as assigned or in the office environment.
  • Participating in departmental trainings and meetings.
  • Reserve and block off parking spaces or lots upon request.
  • Assist with college Commencement or other college events.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Valid State Issued Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid/AED
  • Exhibit honesty and integrity, interpersonal skills and communicating effectively in a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to learn rules and enforce them; follow written and oral instructions; make sound judgment’s and decisions; be objective and fair and be alert at all times.

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.

This is an hourly position scheduled to work up to 18 hours per week, with a salary of $22.51 - 30.11*.

This is a part-time classified position. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A. After completing the six-month probation, your salary will increase by 2 steps. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Associate (WPEA) Union. Classified positions may qualify for the following benefits:
