About MCC

Metropolitan Community College is the oldest public institution of higher learning in Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 1915 as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute. The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs.

Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River, located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; MCC-Online and MCC-Penn Valley, located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri.

MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, several programs have specific accreditations as well.

Job Summary

Incumbent provides comprehensive and professional administrative support, and assists with financial/accounting analysis and research, and projects for an assigned functional area. Major duties and responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, College policies, processes, procedures, standards, and requirements; providing highly skilled assistance to departments; scheduling and coordinating meetings; preparing financial documentation; processing requisitions; maintaining data; and preparing analytical or statistical reports. Essential Functions

  • Provides highly skilled assistance to the department; work may involve reviewing applications or other information to determine program eligibility or compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and requirements; and assisting with coordinating special project operations
  • Manages an assigned budget; work may involve monitoring and authorizing program expenditures, and making and implementing recommendations related to budget processes and procedures
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates meetings; work may involve reserving rooms and other spaces; contacting and sending out notifications to appropriate personnel, vendors, and other agencies; maintaining calendars; monitoring staff operations; transcribing and sending out minutes; preparing meeting agendas; and administering contracts
  • Prepares, edits, formats, reconciles, maintains, and/or submits financial documentation, analytical and statistical reports, financial reports, communications materials, records, letters, files, policy and personnel documents, and other documentation; work may include compiling and analyzing information, and making and implementing related recommendations
  • Performs customer service duties to include providing general and specific information to employees and vendors via phone, email, or in person
  • Coordinates district-wide business travel for the department. This consists of arranging/booking airfare, hotel, registrations, car rentals, and other travel logistics
  • Coordinates with internal and external personnel, departments, and agencies to communicate information, serve as liaison, represent the department/College, and facilitate departmental operations
  • Performs office management duties to include maintaining inventory; ordering supplies; and sorting and distributing mail

  • Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related areas*
  • Three (3) years’ experience in accounting/finance support or related area

  • *Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

  • Physical RequirementsPositions in this class typically require feeling, grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
