Job Summary


The Department of Communication at Georgia College & State University invites applications for an 18-month Limited-Term Lecturer position (non-tenure track) as a Communication Studies Generalist to begin January 2027. Appointment is for Spring semester 2027 and AY 2027-2028.

This position will teach courses at the undergraduate level. Successful candidates are expected to engage students in research and/or creative activities. Areas of instructional need may include media literacy, professional media writing, interviewing and listening, and publication editing.

The position emphasizes effective teaching, curriculum development, and mentorship of students preparing for careers in public relations, multimedia journalism, video and audio production, and other related communication fields. Additionally, the faculty may teach in the CORE.

Responsibilities


Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
- All faculty members contribute to the Georgia College & State University (GCSU) core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y), sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses, or in other areas of the core.
- All GCSU faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike.
- To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.
- This position teaches 5 courses per semester.

Faculty - Professional Development -
Limited term faculty are expected to stay current in their field.

Faculty - Service to Institution -
- All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors.
- Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
An M.A., Ph.D., or a M.F.A. in the communication discipline at the time of appointment is expected.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1.

Required Experience
Understanding of the principles associated with effective teaching and learning.

Relevant academic or professional experience in communication (i.e., professional media writing, public relations, interviewing and listening, publication editing, advertising).
