Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Department Information

As a research-driven, student-centered Department, KSU's Department of English promotes the study of what is unique regarding human expression to empower students to understand who they are and how they should live, while also helping students cultivate and articulate skillsets that will enable them to thrive in viable career pathways. The Department houses three degrees, English (BA), English Education (BS), and Professional Writing (MA), that honor humanistic traditions while teaching students to make a range of contributions to professional and civic life. Additionally, the Department is home to core programs in First-Year Composition and General Education Literature, essential areas to KSU's undergraduate student success ecosystem. The students we serve are fully representative of the communities we serve in the metropolitan area and region, and we embrace high-impact practices such as mentored research, community-engaged learning, and internships in order to support their ability to succeed. Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of English in the Department of English with a preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

KSU utilizes a differentiated workload model for tenure-track faculty. The baseline workload is 60% teaching, 30% research, and 10% service, which equates to 3/3 teaching. Differentiated workloads emphasizing teaching, research, and/or service can be assigned depending on the candidate's performance, strengths, and interests and the department's needs. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in professional writing on the Kennesaw and/or Marietta campuses, including courses such as Professional Editing, Workplace Writing, Digital Rhetoric, Technical Writing, Introduction to Professional Writing, Grant and Proposal Writing, Managing Writing in Organizations, Business and Technical Editing, Feature Writing, Document Design & Desktop Publishing, Writing for Social Media, Literacy Studies, Careers in Professional Writing, Web Content Development, Introduction to English Studies, and First-Year Composition. Particular needs include Professional Editing, Digital Rhetoric, Technical Writing, and Careers in Professional Writing. The candidate will also assist in curriculum development and teaching of courses related to writing in the non-profit sector.
• Service to the Department/College/University/professional community is expected.
• Active scholarship in the candidate's specialization is expected. The hire will be eligible for scholarship support via start-up, Department and College funds, etc., to support high-impact external funding and publication activities.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

• A PhD, or the foreign equivalent, in English, or a closely related discipline, is required at the time of hire.
• Demonstrated preparation to teach listed and related courses, including but not limited to, coursework preparation, prior teaching experience, etc.
• Demonstrated capacity to succeed in producing fundable and publishable research in professional, applied, and/or technical writing, and rhetoric/composition, including but not limited to, graduate dissertation focus; disseminated research such as presentations, grants, or publications, etc.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with and/or research in writing in the nonprofit sector.
• Professional experience collaborating with the non-profit sector for community-writing, service-learning, and other community-based writing initiatives.
• Experience with high-impact pedagogies leveraging community writing, service and community learning, and work-based learning.
• Experience teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
