Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving,

The Office of Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving fosters lifelong relationships between Georgia State University and its more than 285,000 alumni worldwide by strengthening affinity, deepening connections to the university, and creating meaningful opportunities for engagement, advocacy, volunteerism, and philanthropy.

Building upon the legacy of the Georgia State Alumni Association, founded in 1929, the office serves alumni across the lifelong engagement continuum and supports alumni and supporters throughout the donor continuum, creating opportunities to stay connected, informed, involved, and invested in Georgia State's future. Whether through alumni programs and events, regional engagement, career and networking initiatives, volunteer service, annual giving campaigns, or donor stewardship efforts, the office provides multiple pathways for alumni and supporters to engage in ways that are meaningful to them.

Through an integrated approach to alumni engagement and philanthropy, the office is building a sustainable engagement ecosystem that strengthens affinity, engagement, advocacy, and philanthropic support for Georgia State University. Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Alumni & Constituent Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing strategic engagement initiatives that strengthen lifelong relationships between Georgia State University and its alumni, students, parents, donors, and friends. This position provides leadership for regional alumni networks, affinity-based communities, volunteer engagement programs, and the Young Alumni Network, creating meaningful opportunities that foster belonging, institutional pride, volunteerism, advocacy, and lifelong connection to the university. 

As a key member of the Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving team, the Assistant Director serves as a connector between engagement, volunteer leadership, board service, and philanthropy by creating intentional pathways that deepen constituent involvement and support the university's long-term advancement goals. Through strategic relationship cultivation, leadership development, and personalized constituent engagement, the position identifies and develops future volunteers, ambassadors, advisory board members, advocates, and philanthropic supporters. 

The Assistant Director oversees the Student Relations Coordinator and supports a seamless continuum of engagement from student involvement through alumni participation, volunteer leadership, and lifelong engagement with Georgia State University. The position collaborates closely with colleagues across Alumni Engagement, Annual Giving, Development, and Board Engagement to ensure highly engaged constituents are connected to meaningful opportunities that advance both individual interests and institutional priorities. 

Job Duties

Constituent Engagement Strategy & Community Development

  • Develop and implement strategic engagement plans that increase alumni participation, institutional affinity, and lifelong engagement. 

  • Create meaningful experiences and engagement opportunities that foster connection, belonging, and pride among alumni and constituents. 

  • Identify emerging engagement opportunities and constituent communities that support institutional priorities. 

  • Establish annual goals, participation metrics, and success measures for assigned engagement initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with colleges, schools, and university partners to align constituent engagement efforts with university objectives. 

  • Evaluate engagement outcomes and constituent feedback to inform future planning and continuous improvement. 

Regional & Affinity Network Development

  • Develop, launch, and sustain regional alumni networks in strategically important markets. 

  • Build and support affinity-based alumni communities that connect constituents through shared academic experiences, professional interests, identities, causes, student affiliations, and other common interests. 

  • Recruit, train, and steward volunteer leaders who serve as ambassadors and engagement champions within regional and affinity communities. 

  • Develop leadership structures, succession plans, and engagement strategies that encourage long-term sustainability and growth. 

  • Collaborate with campus partners and alumni leaders to identify new opportunities for regional and affinity engagement. 

  • Utilize constituent data and participation trends to identify emerging communities and engagement opportunities. 

Young Alumni Network & Alumni Lifecycle Engagement

  • Lead the strategic development, growth, and engagement of the Young Alumni Network. 

  • Design and implement initiatives focused on networking, professional development, mentorship, volunteerism, philanthropy, and leadership development for recent graduates. 

  • Create engagement pathways that encourage alumni to remain connected during the first ten years following graduation. 

  • Partner with the Student Relations Coordinator to strengthen student-to-alumni transition efforts and foster lifelong engagement. 

  • Collaborate with campus partners to deliver programs that support career development and alumni-to-student engagement opportunities. 

Volunteer Leadership Development & Board Pipeline Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer engagement framework that supports participation, leadership development, advocacy, and institutional service. 

  • Recruit, train, steward, and recognize alumni volunteers across engagement initiatives, regional networks, affinity communities, and institutional programs. 

  • Create leadership pathways that move constituents from participants to volunteers, mentors, ambassadors, committee members, and board candidates. 

  • Collaborate with the Director of Board Engagement to identify, cultivate, and prepare high-potential volunteers for advisory and board service opportunities. 

  • Support volunteer governance, leadership expectations, accountability standards, and succession planning. 

  • Maintain a sustainable pipeline of future university leaders, ambassadors, and advocates. 

Constituent Relationship Management & Strategic Follow-Up

  • Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with alumni, volunteers, affinity leaders, regional leaders, mentors, ambassadors, award recipients, and other highly engaged constituents. 

  • Conduct strategic outreach and personalized follow-up with event attendees, volunteers, and engaged alumni to deepen relationships and encourage continued involvement. 

  • Develop engagement pathways that connect constituents to volunteer leadership, mentoring, networking, advisory, advocacy, and philanthropic opportunities. 

  • Utilize engagement data and participation trends to identify emerging leaders and highly engaged alumni for expanded involvement with the university. 

  • Develop and steward relationships with distinguished alumni, award recipients, including 40 Under 40 recipients and other recognized alumni leaders, to encourage continued engagement, volunteer service, mentorship, leadership, and advocacy. 

  • Collaborate with colleagues in Annual Giving, Development, and Board Engagement to connect highly engaged constituents with appropriate advancement opportunities. 

  • Maintain constituent interaction records and engagement plans within the university's CRM system. 

Student-to-Alumni Engagement & Staff Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Student Relations Coordinator. 

  • Provide strategic direction for student engagement, student philanthropy, and alumni transition initiatives. 

  • Ensure alignment between student engagement efforts and broader alumni engagement goals. 

  • Support collaboration between current students, alumni volunteers, mentors, and university partners. 

  • Promote a lifelong engagement philosophy that begins during the student experience and continues beyond graduation. 

Operations, Assessment & Reporting

  • Manage assigned budgets and resources in accordance with university policies and procedures. 

  • Monitor engagement, volunteer participation, network growth, and leadership development outcomes. 

  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and recommendations for Alumni Engagement and University Advancement leadership. 

  • Utilize CRM systems and data analytics tools to inform decision-making and measure effectiveness. 

  • Support departmental planning, special projects, and division-wide strategic initiatives. 



Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Standards:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of higher education experience

More than 50,000 students annually attend Georgia State University. While 90 percent of the students are from Georgia, students also come from all 50 states and 160 countries. More than 1,400 international students attend Georgia State and graduate students comprise 31 percent of the student population.

Degrees are offered at the bachelor’s, master’s, specialist and doctoral levels through six units: the College of Arts and Sciences, J. Mack Robinson College of Business, College of Education, College of Health and Human Sciences, College of Law and Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. In addition to the numerous degree programs, Georgia State offers full- and part-time programs and day, evening and weekend classes.

Students have many choices in extracurricular activities including more than 22 fraternities and sororities; and some 250 chartered student groups, including 60 degree-related student groups, seven religious, 24 law-oriented and 22 multicultural/international groups; and 10 honor societies. There is also an active student government association which includes the student senate and the judicial board.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
