Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

Under general supervision supports learning through a comprehensive career pathways program encompassing the following areas: internship identification and placement assistance, career counseling, professional readiness assistance (resume writing, cover letter writing, interviewing skills, identifying job leads, completing the application process, and using the internet and social media), graduate school counseling and information, and other areas related to career success.

These services are provided to current students and alumni. Actively collaborates with admissions, academic units, and alumni services to promote career development to TSU students. Pivotal and highly visible position. Works closely and collaboratively with faculty, staff, alumni, and parents to expand possibilities for student learning, leadership, and employment.

Essential Duties Summary:

  • Responsible for marketing all aspects of the Career Pathways program to the TSU community including students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
  • Monitoring and tracking all engagement outcomes of students and alumni and providing annual reports on outcome data.
  • Along with other members of the Career Pathways Center staff, creating and providing presentations/workshops to students on various topics relevant to career services.
  • Developing strategies and initiatives to build and support career pathways and provide career opportunities in public, non-profit and business sectors to school/college undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Working closely with academic units and key external stakeholder groups to expand and maintain an employer recruitment network and to develop and sustain a continuum of internships and job placements.
  • Overseeing promotional efforts for Career Pathways Center, including preparation of promotional material, for distribution through social media, brochures, and other forms of wide-reaching advertisement.
  • Disseminating information on internships, career opportunities, and professional development activities to students, alumni, faculty, and staff through appropriate media.
  • Soliciting and utilizing employer feedback to update programs/services and to create and implement programs that respond to the needs of business, industry, and organizations.
  • Maintaining a current internship database.
  • Collecting and reporting Career Pathways internship placement statistics for TSU.
  • Developing and managing fiscal/budget for daily operations.
  • Engaging in revenue generating activities.
  • Providing innovative and strategic leadership, program development, and administration of a comprehensive career center serving all university stakeholders.
  • Developing new student-centered programs and initiatives that address evolving employment trends and needs.
  • Supporting student success and using best practices with regards to the operation of a comprehensive career services office.
  • Developing and monitoring the department’s long-range strategic plan, using best practices and a strong commitment to internal and external data collection, analysis, and ongoing program evaluation.
  • Developing corporate/employer relations strategies that expand employer involvement with the institution and the recruitment of students.
  • Developing and enforcing policies and procedures to address issues and processes of career services programs.
  • Developing an annual action plan based on university and consumer (student, alumni, and recruiter) feedback.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range:

$74,879.81 - $95,471.75

Education:

Master’s degree in college student personnel, social work, counseling, educational administration, business, or related field preferred. Years of experience may be used in lieu of education at a rate of one for one AND five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience including career counseling, job placement, internship and employee development or equivalent experience.

Work Experience:

Preferred:

  • Experience in a higher education setting preferred.
  • Possesses an understanding of the cultural, social, and educational needs of a multi-ethnic campus community.

Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Working/Environmental Conditions:

  • Routine office environment.
  • Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
  • Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects lightweight may be required.
  • Use of video display terminal.
