Director, Compliance Services

The Director, Compliance Services, works under the direction of the Associate Athletics Director, Compliance Services. The position works cooperatively with athletic department staff, coaches, and student-athletes to provide advice and information on compliance-related matters as well as to resolve and monitor compliance-related issues. The position will serve as the subject matter expert responsible for best practices and internal accountability for one or more specific bylaws, overseeing the day-to-day tasks of one or more staff members, being the compliance liaison for all applicable rules for a select number of varsity programs and DAPER departments, collaborating with senior management as required, and serving as a leader within the office for setting policies, calendars, and other initiatives.

Run the day-to-day compliance operations for a select number of sport programs, ensuring compliance with all NCAA bylaws, including but not limited to the following areas:

Bylaw 11: coaching/staff limitations and tracking

Bylaw 12: agents; student-athlete employment; promotional activities; seasons of competition; athletics eligibility (fka amateurism)

Bylaw 13: recruiting materials; contacts and evaluations tracking; official and unofficial visits; publicity approval; camps and clinics; precollege expenses

Bylaw 14: initial, transfer and continuing eligibility; eligibility waivers; full-time enrollment; roster management

Bylaw 15: financial aid awards - tracking, approvals, and disbursement

Bylaw 16: complimentary tickets; travel per diem; team entertainment; awards; benefits; Student Assistance Fund

Bylaw 17: House roster limitations, CARA, RARA, playing season, TMP, foreign tour; outside competition

Bylaw 20: sport sponsorship reporting

Bylaw 22: name, image, and likeness

Responsibilities

Core Duties:

• Lead in preparing varying NCAA, Conference, or Stanfordreports.

• Lead with providing NCAA and Conference rulesinterpretations.

• Lead with research and preparation of NCAA waivers as deemedapplicable.

• Lead and/or assist with projects that further advance theintegrity of the Compliance Services Office.

• Lead with investigation and preparation of rules violationreports and student-athlete reinstatement requests.

• Assist with fiscal monitoring of Compliance Services budget andbudgetary decisions

• Serve as the compliance liaison to other DAPER units asassigned.

• Serve as the compliance liaison to non-athletics campus units, asassigned.

• Review, coordinate, and implement rules education initiatives andpolicy/procedure updates.

• Identify risk areas and propose solutions, including drafting,implementing, and monitoring DAPER policies.

• Supervise and train junior staff and ensuring training in placefor new DAPER employees

• Expected to work autonomously on day-to-day responsibilitieswhile endeavoring to work independently on projects intended to betterthe processes and efficiency of the compliance services office as awhole, using appropriate discretion and ensuring actions are in linewith institutional and departmental best interests.

• Serve as subject matter expert across multiple NCAA bylaws tokeep team members informed on current legislation within the applicablebylaw(s) and apprised of upcoming deadlines or obligations forcompliance sport liaisons to work with their teams.

Minimum Education andExperience

Bachelor’s degree and five years of athletics compliance experience,or other relevant experience in compliance, industry, higher education,or combination of education and relevant experience. Master’s degreeand/or J.D. preferred and NCAA and/or athletics complianceexperience.
