Assistant Athletic Trainer

The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes in assigned varsity programs within Stanford’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER). Responsibilities include injury and illness prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, emergency care, and return-to-play planning. This position collaborates with physicians, coaches, and sports medicine staff to support student-athlete health, well-being, and performance; mentors advanced postgraduate athletic trainers and athletic training students; and maintains accurate, confidential medical records in accordance with university policies and regulatory requirements. Based on Stanford’s main campus, the role includes practice and competition coverage, travel, and evening and weekend work.

Core Duties:

• Under general supervision, assist the manager in the dailyoperation of the athletic training facilities including management ofathletic training fellows, graduate students and interns, coordinationof medical services and the facilitation of communication betweenmedical providers regarding the status of student athletes undergoingmedical treatment.

• Work with student athletes to provide care, prevention, treatmentand rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses both on campus andat game venues. Provide injury prevention measures such as appliances,braces, and devices for control of joint motion and limbprotection.

• Collaborate frequently with physical therapists regardingrehabilitation progress and return-to-play planning of injured athletes.Provide injury reports daily, and report status and progress of injuredathletes to team physicians, manager, and coaches on an ongoing basis.Make timely referrals to team physicians for further assessment, testingand evaluation.

• Maintain a safe environment, medical supplies, and emergencyreadiness for athletes at all sanctioned practices and at home and awayvenues. Maintain athletic training and satellite facilities. Practiceemergency protocols.

• Maintain confidentiality of medical information, adherence toregulatory requirements and compliance with team physicianguidelines.

• May provide work direction to other athletic training staff,graduate assistants and interns on an ongoing basis.

• May identify opportunities for international collaboration andprogram exposure. Recruit and select qualified internationaltrainees.

Minimum Education:

Master's degree in athletic training or related field

Minimum Experience:

Three years’ post-Master’s experience as a Certified Athletic Trainerat the college or university level working with high caliber athletes.Experience in positions of leadership at the college or universitylevel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong communication, administrative, time management andinterpersonal skills. Advanced computer skills and demonstratedexperience with office software and email applications.

• Working knowledge of electronic medical record keeping.

• Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements.

• Strong clinical skill development.

• Working knowledge of emerging evidence-based practices.

• Ability to engage in physically demanding, manual tasks.

Certificates and Licenses Required

Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board ofCertification (BOC).

First Aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for health careproviders.

AED (automated external defibrillator) certification.

HIPAA training.

Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class CDriver’s License.
