Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

The Associate Coach collaborates with the Head Coach on comprehensive responsibilities associated with Chapman University’s NCAA Division III varsity swimming & diving programs. Primary responsbilities include coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, program administration, equipment management, and supporting the Department of Athletics. This position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and team travel. The successful candidate is expected to maintain full compliance with all rules and regulations established by Chapman University, the SCIAC Conference, and the NCAA

Coaching

• Coach, instruct, and condition swimming & diving student-athletes in sport fundamentals, skill development, and competitive strategy while fostering an educationally sound and developmentally enriching environment that supports student-athlete success and well-being.
• Apply strategic vision and leadership to daily practice planning and direct aspects of practice, including event/group trainings.
• In alignment with Head Coach, provide program oversight, including building a competitive NCAA intercollegiate schedule, coordinating safe and responsible travel to and from away competitions, and facility maintenance.
• Partner with other Athletics department staff to share common facility spaces.
• Cultivate fundraising through relationships with donors and elevating program status on campus and in the community.

• Serve as game administrator for home sporting events, including oversight of gameday student employees, liaising with game officials and visiting teams, and providing a safe and respectful environment for spectators.
• Responsible for facility management, equipment operations, internal operations, and compliance.

• Lead recruiting efforts to scout and identify prospective student-athletes consistent with institutional admissions and roster management expectations.
• Partner with the Office of Admissions to remain in alignment with University goals in recruiting prospective students.

• Maintain full compliance with NCAA and SCIAC rules and regulations. Participate in required departmental, conference, and NCAA meetings, education, and training programs, and adhere to university and departmental policies and procedures.
• Promote and enforce the highest standards of competitive integrity, academic responsibility, and professional conduct for student-athletes consistent with university policies, departmental expectations, and NCAA regulations.
• Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and Title IX Mandatory Reporter and fulfill all associated training and reporting obligations.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant coaching experience with assigned sport(s).
• Technical expertise and knowledge of swimming & diving coaching, training, and program management at the college level.
• Experienced leadership skills and effective interpersonal communicator, with the ability to work collaboratively with students and colleagues
• Proven ability to recruit, motivate, develop, and retain student-athletes consistent with institutional and NCAA Division III philosophies.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and maintain compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and take initiative on matters of significance.

• Experience working in a higher education setting.
• Experience working with NCAA Division III and SCIAC environment, and familiarity with rules and regulations.
