CYFCP builds the capacity of families, service providers, researchers, teachers, and communities to promote the well-being of children and youth. In partnership with colleagues from across the university and the community, the center carries out basic, applied, and action research; translates research into effective programs and practice; infuses community perspectives into university research and teaching; facilitates strategic problem-solving processes; and promotes programs, practices, and policies that yield positive outcomes for children and their families.

CYFCP promotes interdisciplinary research and leverages the University’s resources to tackle community issues. The Center is funded primarily through a diverse portfolio of federal, state, local, and foundation grants and contracts.

The Business Officer is a member of the CYFCP leadership team. The Business Officer will manage the day-to-day operations of a robust center with 10 active areas of expertise encompassing 63 staff and total externally funded grants in excess of 13 million. This position will serve in a pre-and post-award capacity, develop and manage complex budgets related to the operations of the center as well as the external grants, participate in strategic planning of the center to continue its growth and expansion into other areas of expertise, and handle talent management for the center.

• Master’s degree and 1-2 yrs experience; or Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 yrs experience. Experience in budgeting of a large, multifaceted program. Experience in Human Resources areas such as position development, personnel management, etc. Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

• Understanding of research infrastructure and experience in grant management software e.g. Cayuse & Banner

Finance Management

Participate as a key leader in providing data to inform budget and spending priorities, development and oversight of budgets, both internal to UNCG and externally funded from grants from inception to completion of projects. Maintain knowledge of the overall CYFCP budget to assist the director and PI’s with unique problem-solving and oversight of the budget for compliance, timely use of funds, and reporting.

Asset Management development and oversight.

Development and oversight of asset management plans for CYFCP.
Provide support to PI’s and oversee with the management of center assets, leases, and business arrangements with external partners.
Responsibility for contract management, purchasing, reconciliations, billing and monitoring overall assets of the center.

Talent Management

Serve as the central contact for HR matters within CYFCP, using knowledge of policies and procedures to advise and assist the center staff with HR matters. Development and updating of position descriptions, act as liaison with UNCG HR department, coordinate responses and services between CYFCP, DORE, Contracts and Grants and UNCG HR. Ensure funding is properly applied to correctly allocate effort to grant activities in a timely manner. Work closely with PIs and CYFCP teams to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, timely processing of personnel actions, and accurate reporting and decision support with matters related to personnel. Responsible for reviewing effort with PIs and assisting with effort reporting.

Strategic Endeavors

Support development and oversight of strategic endeavors for CYFCP. Support the director and team in the coordination of university-wide research collaborations and the coordination of the flow of research activities in cross-departmental research projects. Other duties as assigned.

Externally funded research services

Development of overall operational budgets as well as budgets for federal, state, local government, and foundation grants to ensure efficiency and compliance with external funders. Liaison with PIs, OSP (Office of Sponsored Programs), and Contracts and Grants Accounting to ensure coordination, compliance, and correct reporting. Collaborate and advise regarding the development and processing of pre- and post-award tasks, such as PRA’s (Pre Award Assumption of Risk Forms), extension requests, and Cayuse grant preparation.
