JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Clinical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care and clinical support within the Student Health Center to assist in the delivery of quality primary care services to patients. This position performs a variety of licensed practical nursing duties, including triage, phlebotomy, immunizations, injections, laboratory and diagnostic testing, patient education, and other clinical services within the LPN scope of practice. The position maintains accurate electronic medical records, supports health promotion and outreach initiatives, and assists with quality assurance and regulatory compliance activities. The Clinical LPN also provides guidance, training, and supervision to lower-level nursing and medical support staff as assigned while promoting safe, confidential, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides practical nursing care to assigned patients in scheduled, urgent, and emergency situations in accordance with established clinical protocols and the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) scope of practice.Performs patient triage and clinical procedures, including phlebotomy, immunizations, injections, specimen collection, laboratory testing, diagnostic testing, and other authorized nursing procedures.Assesses and monitors patient needs and provides patient education, counseling, and instruction regarding medications, discharge plans, treatments, follow-up care, and other healthcare instructions as authorized by healthcare providers.Accurately documents patient care, treatments, procedures, and other required information in the electronic medical record system and maintains applicable practice-management records, clinic data logs, and quality-control documentation.Maintains compliance with Student Health Center and Southern University policies, procedures, clinical protocols, confidentiality requirements, infection-control practices, and applicable regulatory and safety standards.Follows established safety and infection-prevention procedures, including appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), proper handling and disposal of biohazardous and medical waste, and safe operation of clinical equipment.Provides training, instruction, guidance, and supervision to lower-level nursing staff, medical assistants, nursing assistants, and other designated clinical support personnel consistent with the LPN scope of practice.Participates in peer review, quality assurance activities, clinical and staff meetings, and assists with reviewing and updating clinical protocols and procedures as requested.Participates in health promotion initiatives, community outreach, off-site healthcare programs, and university-sponsored health events as assigned, including dissemination of approved health education information.Supports efficient daily operations of the Student Health Center by prioritizing patient-care needs and assigned responsibilities, maintaining supplies and inventory, coordinating equipment and maintenance needs, safeguarding clinic property and confidential information, collaborating with staff, and performing other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) education program.
• Minimum of one (1) year of nursing care experience.
• Experience providing nursing care in a clinical or hospital setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) education program.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical or direct healthcare delivery as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Demonstrated experience providing nursing care in an outpatient, ambulatory, or primary care setting.
• Experience working collaboratively with healthcare professionals and clinical support staff in the delivery of patient care.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES:

• Practical Nursing Diploma or Certificate from an approved practical nursing program.
• Current and valid Louisiana Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
