Job Summary:Under general supervision and in conjunction with the goals and vision of the Director of Athletics, develops and directs an athletic communications program that successfully promotes ASU athletics, coaches and athletes in all appropriate venues and that increases both public participation in and local, state and national recognition of Ram and Rambelle athletics. Supervision of the athletic communications assistants, graduate-assistant, student-assistant and any voluntary assistants that work in the Office of Athletic Communications. Coordinate and direct to ensure proper home event coverage with regards to all aspects of athletic communications.
Essential Duties:- Promotes ASU athletes, coaches and sports through a variety of media, advertising, promotional, public relations and marketing strategies. Assists with monitoring and updating angelosports.com website with timely and accurate information, including game accounts, features, announcements and news.
- Compiles statistical and historical information on individual athletes and teams; prepares information and reports for the NCAA and LSC. Directs and oversees sports media relation strategies and manages/directs Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and graduate / student assistants.
- Responsible ensuring a successful strategy and production with regards to streaming of ASU Athletic events. Promotes positive media relations with local, state and national news organizations and coordinates coach and student-athlete appearances with media.
- Assists with game management, including set up, statistical reporting to meet NCAA and LSC requirements, including organization and coordination of press box and media area activities. Provides data and metrics with regards to streaming viewership and social media usage.
- Responsible for complying with all NCAA, LSC, Angelo State University, and Texas Tech University System policies, rules, and regulations. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
- Communications, journalism, and Web, and news and feature writing.
- Print, broadcast, and web communication principles and strategies, including streaming of live events.
- Sports and athletic programs, including basic sports statistical applications.
- Marketing, advertising, public relations, and promotional principles and strategies.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and related software.
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
- Promote ASU athletics through multiple media, marketing, advertising, public relations, and promotional strategies.
- Work effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including media representatives, coaches, faculty, student-athletes, and others.
- Manage media staff and activities in compliance with university policies, procedures, and practices.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or a closely related field.
- Four years of experience in sports information, communications, marketing, or public relations.
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field.
- Experience in sports marketing.
- Experience serving as the primary or secondary communications contact for football.
This position requires prolonged periods of sitting, and intermittent standing, walking, reaching, bending and grasping. Basic manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination are also necessary. Incumbent works both in and outdoors, and has periodic exposure to dust, pollen, heat, cold, and inclement weather.

History
The institution was founded in 1928 as San Angelo Junior College and then changed the name to San Angelo College in 1932. The campus was moved from its original downtown location to its current site in 1948. By an act of the 58th Session of the Texas Legislature, the institution was designated as Angelo State College in 1965, the year it became a four-year, state-supported institution. The name was changed to Angelo State University in 1969. On Sept. 1, 2007, Angelo State University became a member of the Texas Tech University System.
Academics
Angelo State offers on-campus and online courses through six colleges: Arts and Humanities; Business; Education; Health and Human Services; Science and Engineering; and Graduate Studies and Research. The university is recognized for its strong undergraduate programs overall, and its computer science and commercial aviation programs recently earned prestigious certifications from the National Security Agency and Federal Aviation Administration, respectively. ASU also features a vibrant Honors Program, support programs for first-generation and former foster care students, and a thriving Center for International Studies.

Campus
Angelo State University’s campus is situated on 274 acres in the center of San Angelo and is lined with native live oak and pecan trees.
