Director of Nursing Program

Leads the development and establishment of a new Associate Degree Nursing program aligned with the College's mission, workforce needs, student learning outcomes, and expected program outcomes.

Prepares and submits the application and all required supporting documentation to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for initial approval of the Associate Degree in Nursing program, including organizational structure, curriculum plan, projected enrollment, faculty plans, clinical recourses, facilities, student policies, budget, and program evaluation processes.

Provides leadership for curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and revision to ensure currency, rigor, clinical relevance, and alignment with end-of-program student learning outcomes.

Works closely with the SVP of Enrollment to define admissions criteria for admission/re-admission and alternate pathways to begin or complete the nursing program(s).

Manages the program budget and leads student recruitment efforts.

Develops and maintains policies and procedures that ensure compliance with North Carolina Board of Nursing accreditation standards and institutional policies.

Develops, implements, and maintains program assessment, quality improvement, and evaluation of student learning outcomes, graduate outcomes, and program effectiveness.

Prepares program goals, annual reports, regulatory reports, accreditation documentation, and prioritized budget requests with faculty input.

Establishes nursing student policies, handbooks, advising processes, orientation activities, and communication systems that support student success and regulatory compliance.

Maintain accurate student, faculty, clinical, program evaluation, regulatory, and accreditation records in accordance with College procedures and applicable requirements.

Convenes and leads nursing faculty meetings, advisory committee meetings, curriculum workgroups, and program planning activities.

Represents the nursing program in College governance, community engagement, healthcare partnerships, regulatory communications, and accreditation activities.

Maintains a designated teaching load (3-6 credits per semester) in classroom, laboratory, or clinical settings as determined by institutional needs.

Utilizes evidence-based pedagogical strategies and simulation technologies to enhance student learning outcomes.

Delivers instruction that prepares a diverse student population for entry-level nursing practice and success on the NCLEX-RN.

Provides Leadership for the recruitment, onboarding, supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of qualified nursing faculty and staff in accordance with College policy and regulatory requirements.

Oversees the design, scheduling, and procurement of the nursing skills and simulation labs.

Develops and maintains clinical partnerships, affiliation agreements, clinical placement processes, and agency credentialing requirements necessary to support student learning.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.

Earned doctorate (PhD or DNP) preferred.

In accordance with NCBON requirements, the Director of Nursing must complete education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to the program director role prior to or within the first three years of employment, if not already held. This may be satisfied by any of the following:

• Completion of 45 contact hours of NCBON-approved continuing education courses.

• Completion of a certificate program in nursing education.

• Nine semester hours of graduate coursework in adult learning and learning principles.

• Documentation of completion of structued, individualized development activities of at least 45 NCBON-approved contact hours.

Two years of full-time experience as a faculty member in a Board-approved nursing program; three or more years preferred.

Clinical nursing experience, nursing faculty experience, and academic or nursing leadership experience sufficient to lead the program in accomplishing its mission, goals, and expected program outcomes.

Ability to lead the startup, approval, implementation, and continuous improvement of an Associate Degree in Nursing program, including navigating NCBON state board approval and national accreditation (ACEN/CNEA) processes.

Proficiency in written, oral, interpersonal, and collaborative communication with faculty, students, administrators, clinical partners, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to organize complex projects, manage competing priorities, analyze data, solve problems, and make evidence-informed recommendations.
