About Us

The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 25 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

Department Information

The University System of Georgia (USG) is a part of the community in each of Georgia's 159 counties and provides services across the state. The USG is composed of 25 higher education institutions including four research universities, four comprehensive universities, nine state universities and nine state colleges. It also includes the Georgia Public Library Service, which encompasses approximately 389 facilities within the 61 library systems throughout the State of Georgia. Additionally, the USG includes the Georgia Archives which identifies, collects, manages, preserves and provides access to records and information about Georgia.

Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta.

Job Summary

The University System of Georgia (USG) central office provides students with paid internship opportunities to develop professional skills, learn about the operations of the state's public higher education system, and earn valuable work experience.

The internship program offers placements each semester supporting several divisions in the system office, including executive leadership, external affairs, government relations, communications and marketing, academic affairs and fiscal affairs. Internships will report directly to the Chancellor's Office.

Interns may be eligible for academic credit through their enrolled USG institution/academic advisor. Opportunities are open to both undergraduate and graduate students in any major/field of study. Work schedules for part-time interns are determined based on student's availability and course schedules. Full-time internship opportunities are also available.

Responsibilities
  • Interns will be based in the Chancellor's office and support multiple divisions across the executive leadership team.
  • Interns will have an opportunity in the application process to indicate specific areas of interest including External Affairs and Government Relations, Communications and Marketing, Academic Affairs, Fiscal Affairs, Legal, and Human Resources.
  • Interns are responsible for activities such as research, data compilation, attending meetings, monitoring legislative hearings, bill tracking, general administrative duties and assisting in the planning of special events.
  • Interns will assist with news and media tracking, drafting correspondence, statements, and memos, photo editing, basic graphic design, social media tracking and analytics, and creating social media posts.
Required Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled in a University System of Georgia institution and completed at least one year of college prior to applying. Students must be in good academic standing to be considered.
