California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), located in Valencia, California, 30 miles north of Los Angeles, is seeking a forward-thinking, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). The VPSA will be joining CalArts at a pivotal time, with the opportunity to to have a transformational impact on students while also partnering with the leadership team in fulfilling the Institute's aspirations through its Strategic Framework. The VPSA is the chief student affairs officer at CalArts, reporting directly to President Ravi S. Rajan, and participating as a trusted advisor and strategic partner on the president's cabinet.
Formally established in 1961 by Walt and Roy Disney, Nelbert Chouinard, and Lulu May Von Hagen, CalArts opened to students in 1971 with a bold new paradigm for arts education. Offering a curriculum that is at once imaginative and rigorous, CalArts continues to distinguish itself as a pioneer in arts education, nurturing and respecting students as artists from their first day on campus. With a 7:1 student-to-faculty ratio, CalArts offers remarkable opportunities for interchange with faculty across disciplines, while encouraging students to cross-pollinate and inspire each other, building lifelong creative and professional networks. In the fall of 2022, CalArts enrolled 1,440 students; 65% are undergraduates and 35% are graduate students. CalArts has always thrived on the diversity of its artists and holds the distinction today of having the most diverse student body of all small private arts colleges in the U.S. Over the course of its first 50 years, CalArts has helped fuel several important movements in the arts, and its graduates have established themselves internationally in every major arts arena. Its influence on the rise of the arts scene in Los Angeles has been significant, and the Institute holds a prominent place in the exploding arts arena of the area, where a critical mass of emerging artists, professional colleagues, and cultural leaders alike come from the ranks of CalArts alumni.

The expected salary for this role is $200K with the possibility of a higher salary for a highly qualified candidate, with a competitive benefits package.
