The School of Medicine's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an opening for a full-time Instructor or Assistant Professor to serve as Director of Research for the Fertility Preservation and Reproductive Late Effects Program.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus has a faculty position open at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor to direct the clinical research activities of the Research, Fertility Preservation and Reproductive Late Effects Program (FRPLE) program. The Research Director will oversee all research activities for the FPRLE program. S/he will also serve as a consultant and mentor to clinical faculty, fellows, and residents involved in FPRLE research. Responsibilities will include:
Assist with FPRLE program development, identification of grant funding opportunities, writing of grant proposals, and facilitating subsequent submission, database research, statistical support, and manuscript publications. The position will be a 0.8 - 1.0 FTE, depending on the candidate. Instructors will be fully supported by the division until able to obtain grant funding, at which time the instructor will be promoted to Assistant Professor. Assistant Professors will be a 1.0 FTE with 0.5 FTE supported by the division and the remaining 0.5 FTE covered by grant funding to support the Director's own research.

This position will report to the Division Chief, Leslie Appiah, MD
Supervision Exercised:
This position will provide ad hoc oversight to professional research assistants in the division, clinical faculty, fellows, and residents as relates to FPRLE research initiatives.
Nature of Work:
The FPRLE Research Director will operate as a subject matter expert (SME) in clinical research, including patient-oriented research and research with human subjects. SMEs possess a deep knowledge and oversight of a specific process, function and/or technology. SMEs are considered an authority in the area and are educated on the subject and are also able to share their knowledge with other stakeholders. For this position, expertise in the clinical research process is required. The FPRLE Research Director will provide research leadership on all research activities for the FPRLE program and collaborate with clinical faculty, fellows, and residents, and full-time professional research assistant.
The FPRLE Research Director will oversee all research studies for the FPRLE program to ensure goals are met. The position will work within the Division of Academic Specialists in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology under the leadership of the division chief and FPRLE Program Director, Dr. Leslie Appiah. This position has been designed to coordinate and oversee multiple grant-funded research projects and requires experience with research project development and start-up activities, data collection and monitoring, and dissemination. The position will also act as a liaison for studies involving multiple recruitment sites, assist with recruitment and supervision of FPRLE research professionals, coordinate research professional study assignments, and communicate with collaborators. The position will manage all the administrative needs and reporting for the program. The hire will be responsible for making decisions at an advanced level and making decisions on the Primary Investigator's (PI) behalf, which includes strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The hire will need to be possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess and elevate issues when appropriate to the PI/program director.

- Act as Director of Research on multiple trials/studies from study initiation to close out Assist with and oversee the day-to-day operations of clinical trials and studies, including managing day-to-day priorities, evaluating, and redistributing workloads on a temporary basis, and mentoring staff Identify issues related to operational efficiency, possible resolutions, and communicate results with leadership in a timely manner Assist Team Leads with creation and implementation of protocols and processes, including process flows, training manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Case Report Forms (CRFs) Independently master all study materials, including but not limited to protocols, informed consent forms, and all other essential study documents for assigned studies Perform study related processes, procedures, and assessments as defined in study protocol and in compliance with regulating bodies Oversee and participate in subject recruitment and retention efforts, including communicating with patients expressing an interest and all pre- screening/screening activities Ensure that the informed consent process has occurred, is properly documented, and that informed consent form documents are filed as required Collect and record of clinical information in an organized and timely manner Code and analyze data obtained from research in an accurate and timely manner in collaboration with statisticians Perform literature searches and assist in peer-reviewed manuscript preparation and submission Adhere to research regulatory standards and maintain regulatory certifications Communicate with Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and the sponsoring agency(s) Maintain detailed records of studies to ensure compliance with requirements of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), study protocols, department, hospital/clinical standard operating procedures, and other regulatory guidelines Ensure that the necessary supplies and equipment for studies are in stock and in working order Supervise professional research assistants and Student Research Assistants and trainees participating in research within the FPRLE program.
