Job Summary/Basic Function:

This is a full-time, 10-month position, with benefits. The Photography and Imaging Technical Assistant oversees the use of the department facilities during the evenings and weekends of the academic year (August to May). Duties include: checking photography equipment in and out of the facility to students; monitoring the activity in the lighting studios and digital labs during the evening hours; and assisting with the maintenance of the darkroom. The Technical Assistant will monitor and track the use of photographic chemicals; monitor and oversee the use of the darkroom; troubleshoot minor problems with photo equipment; oversee equipment returns from students and perform equipment and facilities maintenance.
Work Environment:Position entails working with photographic chemicals and equipment after receiving relevant health and safety training. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., adjust overhead equipment after climbing a ladder. Will have ability to work in a dimly lit environment, as necessary. The work schedule is a recurring 10-month period, from August 1 to May 31.

This is considered a full-time position and includes a generous benefit package.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the job:

  • Knowledge of color calibrating digital devices, i.e. monitors, scanner and printers.
  • Must present a professional appearance.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as business necessitates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree and some experience working in the field of photography or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related work experience including working with darkroom processes, digital photography equipment, large format printing and studio lighting.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA or BFA In Photography.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards and regulations pertaining to photography and digital imaging operations.
  • Experience working with higher education students.
  • Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel Gmail, Google Drive, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor problems with photo equipment, including digital printers and scanners and some knowledge of color calibration in a digital environment.

Monday-Thursday, 4-11 pm, Sunday, 4pm-12am, except when classes are not in session
