Position Description & Details: Description The University of North Dakota (UND) is searching to hire an Assistant Professor with expertise in biomedical engineering. This is a 9-month tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to UND’s research and education programs related to biomedical engineering. This position is contingent upon availability of funding. This position will be primarily on campus (not remote).The successful candidate will be appointed to a faculty position in the academic department most appropriate to their area of expertise, which is expected to be in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science or the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience developing biomedical applications of data science, photonics, or signal and image processing.Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant must have a demonstrated dedication to excellence in engineering education and the potential to develop an externally funded research program. The successful applicant will have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will have the following primary responsibilities and duties:
- Instruction and research in the area of biomedical engineeringTeaching a 1/1 or 2/2 course load in their discipline, both on-campus and at-a-distance, potentially including both classroom and laboratory settings. Initial appointment may include a reduced teaching load to initiate research activity.Advising students in course planning and fulfilling graduation requirements.Communicating effectively in English with students, families, faculty, staff and other professional colleagues in person and at-a-distance (phone, email, etc.)Utilizing computer hardware and software to carry out teaching, research, and service responsibilities to their departmentOperating laboratory equipment and instrumentation appropriate to the candidate’s fieldParticipating in school, college/university, and professional service activitiesConducting engineering scholarly activities including grant preparation and submission, mentoring of graduate student researchers, publication of results, and development of an externally funded research program
- Broad knowledge of academic and commercial development relevant to medical devices and technologiesProven ability to operate effectively as a team player and leader who works effectively with superiors, peers, and subordinates and has strong interpersonal skills.
- PhD degree in a relevant engineering, science, or computing disciplineExperience and a strong publication record in biomedical engineering research and the development of medical devices and technologiesSuccessful completion of criminal history records check.
- Experience developing biomedical applications of data science, photonics, or signal and image processing Post-doctoral research experience in biomedical engineeringExperience working directly with medical device companiesExpertise with photonics or signal and image processingTeaching experience in engineering discipline Experience or demonstrated ability working with diverse groups.
The appointment is expected to begin May 16 or August 16, 2022. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
