Job Profile SummaryThis position creates and administers IPS training programs to meet law enforcement, correctional training and police service aide academy training needs. Work includes maintaining active communication with various levels of college management and personnel; criminal justice personnel and the general public for the dissemination of information, program development. The position plans, schedules all academy training programs in compliance with Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission rules and regulations; coordinates facilities and room assignments. Performs related work duties as directed.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Minimum Experience/Training:
- Four or more years of directly related experience in the criminal justice field as a training officer, or a supervisor, or in a training academy setting and/or experience as a law enforcement/correctional officer preferred. Professional certifications: Florida Department of Law Enforcement general instructor certificate preferred. High Liability Instructor certification desired.

Essential Functions:
- Weekly - 60%: Schedules and coordinates classes and instructors for IPS basic training programs as well as advanced and specialized courses. Informs the Broward College help desk of any program changes, training schedules, course information, testing center updates and other pertinent information.
- Weekly - 10%: Researches, develops, initiates, and evaluates training courses in the area of the state mandated curriculum and advanced and specialized continuing education required training to criminal Justice officers
- Monthly - 5%: Recruits, interviews and recommends hire of adjunct instructors to teach IPS courses. Ensures certifications are current and the instructor's qualifications are compliant with Broward College Policy and FDLE guidelines.
- Bi-Weekly - 5%: Evaluates instructor performance and assesses instructor evaluations to address any performance concerns. Acts as a liaison between student and instructor. Ensures that instructor's adhere to FDLE, agency, and Broward College guidelines and policies.
- Weekly - 5%: Schedules rooms for IPS building facilities inclusive of outside agencies and ensures readiness of the classroom, signage and maps are displayed and all instructor/clients’ needs are met.
- Quarterly - 5%: Creates and writes scenarios for reality based training, monitors scenarios for safety, FDLE compliance and learning outcomes.
- Quarterly - 5%: Works with client agencies to determine training needs, class calendars, and course announcements. Addresses agency questions, concerns and facility needs.
- Other - 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Florida Statutes Chapter 943, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission rules, oral and written skills, research skills, knowledge of current procedures and issues.
- Strong knowledge, understanding and skills in area of responsibility; to include an understanding of concepts and principles of related areas and functions.
- Ability to manage own work to job and performance standards. Ability to participate as an active team member
- Ability to lead a group of employees
- Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer systems, i.e. Microsoft Office Products as well as specialized computer systems
- Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population
