Job Summary

Instruct students, manage laboratory, shop, studio, and/or classroom activities for an assigned academic or clinical program.

Responsibilities

The incumbent in this position will teach all levels and components of the ELI classes to students from diverse international backgrounds. Prepare and evaluate classroom work in conjunction with the curriculum provided. Contribute to the development of program policies and procedures. Help mentor new teachers, and act as team leader for one of the teaching components.

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Instruct students - 50%
Instruct students in assigned laboratory, shop, studio, and/or classroom setting.

Monitor students - 20%
Monitor students to ensure compliance with lab, shop, studio, and/or program rules and/or requirements.

Advise and assist - 15%
Advise and assist students.

Assignment-specific duties - 15%
Perform a variety of assignment-specific duties which may include maintain equipment, purchasing supplies and materials, assisting with curriculum development, inputting data, and other specialized tasks.

Required Qualifications

Required Experience
Must be met by one of the following:

  • TESL/TEFL certification
  • 1 year teaching ESL
  • Bachelor's Degree in English
  • Bachelor's degree in a foreign language

Commensurate with experience

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
