Job Summary

The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise.

Responsibilities

The Department of Communication Disorders provides the finest graduate professional education in communication sciences and disorders while maintaining an excellent undergraduate and clinical doctorate degree. The program stresses excellence in teaching, research, and service by its faculty and students. As a component of the educational program, the department operates the VSU Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic. The clinic offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and hearing disorders to members of our campus community and the general public for the purpose of providing clinical training for students.

The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs. The anticipated need is for instructors to teach courses that may include but are not limited to: Undergraduate Courses in Communication Sciences and Disorders: (CSD 3070: Normal Language Acquisition, CSD 4120: Speech Science), Master's Courses in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD 5030: Phonological Disorders), and SLPD Courses in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD 9521: Single Subject Design in Clinically Based Research, CSD 9530: Social & Cultural Aspects of Underserved Populations).

Part-time instructors will teach assigned courses from the department. This can include teaching face-to-face and/or online courses; timely and effective communicating with students; supporting student learning; assessing students’ performance and providing timely feedback and evaluations; maintaining detailed records of grades and student attendance; modeling professional dispositions, and completing all compliance training (online) required from VSU .

Master's degree in communication disorders or related field

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting
A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).

Position Requires completion of VSU's Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker's Compensation.
