Summary
The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing a variety of tactical and strategic functions to support and align on the overall strategy of the HR department. The Human Resources Generalist will handle employment related matters including benefits administration, HR payroll collaboration, data integrity, reporting, audits, labor relations, staff recruitment, training, compliance, and compensation administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct support to HR Director in functional areas such as union and non-union employee relations, recruitment and staffing, training and development, reporting, compensation, retirement plan, 5500 audits, policy and procedure compliance, HR events and other college initiatives.
- Communicate with employees about compensation, benefits, and other facets of employment.
- Participates on the campus safety committee.
- Handles all Workers Compensation matters including first report of injuries.
- Generates College-wide surveys and collaboration with Communications and Marketing to assist with various campus initiatives.
- Plans, manages, and works with the HR Specialist on the annual Open Enrollment process for employee benefits.
- May assist with health-related billing; reconciles and audits plans on a regular basis.
- Assists with the development and maintenance of the HR website.
- Assists employees with payroll and compensation items
- Develops and analyzes HR metrics and various reporting.
- Represents HR in Data Integrity Group meetings and manages HR data in Colleague.
- Assists with the grievance process with Unions, provides support for negotiations and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
- Maintains active involvement and interaction with local union representatives and department management to help foster a positive labor/management relationship.
- Maintains organization charts and ensures information is up to date per new hires and terminations.
- Conducts various research projects and/or special projects related to the HR Department.
- Maintains up-to-date electronic personnel files for all current and past employees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification, or master's degree a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of human resources management related experience or relevant education, with demonstrated knowledge of human resource principles, practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to coach and counsel employees and management.
- Open and easily approachable.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft, Outlook and Excel.
