Junior/Assistant Specialist Department of Mechanical Engineering - University of California, Berkeley

Professor Costas Grigoropoulos is seeking a Junior/Assistant Specialist for his research group on the NSF funded project “FMSG: Cyber: Does Nature Invoke the Optimum? A Bioinspired Hierarchical Manufacturing Process”.

The Junior/Assistant Specialist will assist with the following tasks under supervision:

1) Computational design of mechanical metamaterials using finite element modeling analysis in conjunction with optimization methods.
2) Fabrication of mechanical metamaterials using multiphoton nanolithography
3) Construction and testing of a multiscale apparatus for fabrication of mechanical metamaterials combining galvanometric scanning and high-resolution processing using high numerical aperture (NA) objectives
4) Testing of the mechanical metamaterials using in situ nanointendenter
5) Carrying out experiments using TEM instrumentation
6) Contributing to technical project reports and scientific publications

This position is covered by the UC-UAW collective bargaining agreement for Academic Researchers.
