12 hour shifts of 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM;

Varied weekdays, holidays, and weekend shifts.

Primary Purpose of Position

Performs technical communications work in support of public safety operations. Receives emergent and non emergent calls, monitors alarms, obtains and relays information, prioritizescalls/alarms and coordinates response procedures, dispatches appropriate public safety personnel, and maintains public safety communications logs and databases.

Minimum Education/Experience

High School diploma or equivalency and one year experience as a public safety telecommunicator.

Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment.

Some positions may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.

Essential Job Duties

Dispatch emergency calls for service for all of UNC Charlotte campus.

Other Work Responsibilities

As assigned by the Chief of Police or Designee.

Some positions may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Previous experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher.

Effective performance of general telecommunications duties, including emergency call response, dispatching police, medic, and fire to assist.

The ability to perform effective under pressure; and understanding of all policy and procedures, the ability to effectively use and maintain telecommunication equipment and the ability to effectively perform telecommunications duties.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications
