The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides assistance and oversight for Stetson University’s Division I intercollegiate athletics sports medicine and rehabilitative program. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with ensuring compliance with all federal, state, NCAA, conference and university regulations, creating and managing departmental resources in a fiscally responsible manner, and sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all levels. The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports directly to either an Associate Athletic Trainer or to the Head Athletic Trainer. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will interact with all Team Physicians, AdventHealth Hospital and other associated health care facilities, the University Health and Counseling services, and Head Coaches.

Team Assignments include: Assistant with Football and a secondary team to be determined upon hiring.

The responsibilities of the Assistant Athletic Trainer shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Covering intercollegiate athletic practices and games as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer to include traveling with teams to be assigned.
  • Providing evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and appropriate follow-up care to student-athletes and staff.
  • Educating coaches, staff, student-athletes and parents on the philosophies and implementation of Sports Medicine procedures including exercise physiology, safety and nutrition.
  • Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer assist in the administering of NCAA and institutional drug testing programs for all student-athletes.
  • Administering and executing clinical and administrative duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer including, but not limited to: timely insurance claim form submissions, insurance information verification, insurance pre-authorization, and daily input of medical records and maintenance of medical records software (SportsWare).
  • Oversight and maintenance of our Docu-Sign, SportsWare, and ImPACT medical document systems.
  • Assist Head Athletic Trainer in management of department budget, equipment, and supplies
  • In consultation with the Head Athletic Trainer, annually review and recommend Sports Medicine policy and procedures to be reviewed by the Team Physicians and Senior Staff for approval.
  • Coordination of sports medicine services when hosting conference championship or select other events.
  • Coordination of Athletic Training coverage for camps and clinics hosted by the Athletics Department.
  • Basic care and day-to-day maintenance of 2 athletic training facilities, including the satellite facility at baseball
  • Coordinate scheduling of Licensed Massage Therapist for campus clinics

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree and master’s degree required in a relevant field

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and master’s degree required in a relevant field in addition to experience working in the sports medicine or rehabilitative field
  • National certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association is required
  • Candidate must meet all requirements for licensure by the state of Florida
  • Candidate must be familiar with all types of medical and insurance regulatory practices and record keeping and have a proven track record of maintaining the overall health of student-athletes
  • The candidate must demonstrate an understanding of university culture and a commitment to leading a competitive intercollegiate sports medicine program in the context of an academically rigorous collegiate environment
