Position Summary: The Department of Nutrition's vision is to enhance the lives and health of people throughout North Carolina and the world by means of the best possible nutrition. The mission is to improve and protect the public's health through teaching, research and practice that foster the best possible nutrition. The National Research Council gave UNC Chapel Hill a # 1 rating among all graduate Departments of Nutrition in the US. Currently the department educates 150 students, including 50 doctoral students, 70 Masters and 30 Bachelors Students. Dr June Stevens, AICR Distinguished Professor, is jointly appointed in the Departments of Nutrition and Epidemiology. She has a large research program with over 20 years of continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health. Her research focuses on the causes and consequences of obesity. Fellow will evaluate obesity interventions. Experiences may include: *collaborations with Dr. Stevens and her team including participation in weekly team meetings *critical evaluation of the literature *hypothesis formation and elucidation *original data collection *original data analysis *manuscript preparation *preparation and delivery of scientific talks *involvement in writing grant proposals *teaching experience optional
Education Requirements: Completed PhD.
Qualification and Experience: Candidates will have interest in intervention research in obesity, body composition and/or physical activity. Candidates will have interest in the development and advancement of methods used in obesity prevention studies aimed at children. Areas of work are likely to include diet, physical activity and other obesity-related behaviors. Experience in analysis of interventions using taxonomy approaches would be valuable. Applicants should be interested in both data collection and analysis and have some experience in the design and implementation of trials. Training in epidemiology, biostatistics, exercise science and nutrition or other health-related sciences is preferred. Strong SAS programming and other data analysis skills are expected.
