This position will serve as second in command of the Support Services Division, with primary responsibilities of directly supervising Police Telecommunicators and the 24-hour operations of the communications center and records management functions while maintaining a culture of customer service appropriate for the policing function in a higher education setting.
Some functions that fall within the communications center include public interactions, alarm monitoring, emergency communications, public safety radio communications, and records management.
Additional responsibilities could include responding to calls for service, enforcing state laws and university regulations and other general policing responsibilities as well as being subject to reassignment as deemed appropriate by the business needs of the department.
The Lieutenant is required to work overtime, in inclement weather and during times of emergencies, holidays, nights, and weekends. May be required to serve on call.
Sworn personnel work a 28 day work period that requires working a minimum of 160 hours. Hours worked between 160 and 171 are compensated as gap hours (straight time). Time and half compensation occurs for hours worked beyond 171 in the designated 28 day period.
Four years of law enforcement experience with at least one year of supervisory experience preferred.
Experience working in a modern campus setting is strongly preferred.
Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification
Community Policing Certification and experience supervising the communications or records management function.
