Under the direction of the Department Head, the Print Resources Coordinator manages the acquisitions, serials, and cataloging functions, including ordering, budget tracking, copy cataloging, checking in, claiming, shelf preparation, renewals, binding, policy making, and supervision in the area of print resources (books and periodicals) and copy cataloging following prescribed national & local standards.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Three to five years of experience with acquisitions operations and copy cataloging in an academic environment or similar large or complex library setting.
- Experience with integrated library systems, especially in relation to acquisitions and copy cataloging functions.
- Experience with fund accounting and library budgeting practices.
- Experience working with vendors and content providers, including book vendors and publishers.
- Experience with Innovative Interfaces Millennium, especially the acquisitions, serials, and cataloging modules.
- Familiarity with cataloging principles and procedures.
- Experience supervising full-time employees and/or student assistants.
- Familiarity with current best practices and trends in library acquisitions and cataloging operations and management.
- Evidence of continued professional development, involvement and contribution
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
- Follow through on each order by creating an order record in the Millennium acquisitions module, tracking arrival and preparing items for cataloging or processing a variety of materials using firm orders, approval plans, and standing orders;
- Uses the library’s integrated library system (Innovative Millennium)
- to establish fund allocations,
- monitors and tracks expenditures,
- daily check-in of periodicals,
- provides budget planning analysis projections,
- acquisitions and cataloging statistics,
- copy cataloging of print materials.
- Maintains the acquisitions, cataloging, serials modules on the ILS system.
- Provides cataloging and acquisitions assistance at Regional Center Libraries including inventory projects.
- Works closely with external library vendors and other content providers, as well as the university business office.
- Coordinates workflow redesign as necessary to enhance efficient and effective acquisitions and copy cataloging operations.
- Regularly conveys developments within the field of acquisitions and cataloging to the Head of Technical Services and co-workers.
- Manages print journal subscriptions in EbscoNet.
- Responsible for the periodical and standing order holdings lists.
- Monitors the check-in file for monthly claims and missing issues.
- Coordinates and tracks library donations following the library’s collection development policy.
- Works closely with book sellers or donation companies to discard withdrawn materials.
- Hires, schedules, trains, and appraises staff and student workers.
- Works with the Print Resources team in creating and maintaining acquisitions and cataloging procedure manuals on LibGuides.
- Train librarians on how to use the Gobi ordering system.
- Manage the processing and labeling of books and journals.
- Effectively collaborates with other Print Resources, and Electronic Resources staff and Library Liaisons to successfully carry out acquisitions and cataloging functions in selecting, acquiring, and cataloging materials to support the educational and research mission of the University.
- Ability to provide leadership and maintaining positive relationships.
- Ability to ensure a high quality online experience for customers and staff in the OPAC.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of current cataloging procedures and principles as defined in AACR2, the MARC Bibliographic, Holdings, & Authorities formats, LC subject headings and classification
- Ability to learn rapidly and implement new cataloging procedures and principles adopted by the libraries is required (such as RDA & FRBR).
