#3257 – Student Accounts Representative, Student Accounts
The University of La Verne has an opening for a Student Accounts Representative. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Accounts, the basic function of this position is to facilitate the arrangements of paying a student’s tuition and fees to the University.
The duties for this position include acting as the primary contact for students, parents, university personnel and other involved parties concerning student accounts; advising students regarding payment options and financial policies; performing daily cashiering duties consisting of receiving and posting payments, charges, and end of day balancing out; managing past due accounts; handling, documenting, and routing incoming telephone calls, acting as a liaison between departments and students; analyzing accounts and conducting research in response to inquiries and/or complaints; maintaining familiarity with policies and procedures of assigned programs in order to provide specialized information concerning accounts; reviewing student accounts for accuracy and appropriate payments, this includes the posting of late fees and placement of holds each term/semester; generating and reviewing aging reports for designated populations; sending appropriate pre-collection correspondence to students and forwarding to collections if necessary; providing timely follow up with students on changes, such as unit load changes, dropping classes, withdrawals, and appeals that may affect their aid; calculating and setting up designated groups of students on payment plans; responding timely to student communication by letter, phone, fax, and email; processing incoming/outgoing mail within the department; reviewing student accounts to determine bookstore voucher eligibility; participating in student, departmental and regional center orientations, informational meetings and training sessions; and performing other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
This position requires a High School Diploma, or equivalent, with two years of business or accounting coursework. Additionally, three years of experience working in an accounts receivable position preferably in a Student Accounts (Bursar’s) Office. Knowledge of financial aid regulations regarding disbursement of funds, refunds, and repayments is required. Candidates must be computer proficient and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and general office equipment.
Ideal candidates will be able to communicate effectively, understand documented procedures, and have logical problem solving skills, as well as be a team player who can function in a fast paced environment while maintaining accuracy in disseminating and recording information. This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a complete background investigation.
