The Outreach Coordinator for Diversity Programs is responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of inclusion-related activities for the campus community, with primary emphasis being on initiatives related to diverse populations. This position is a staff member in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and reports directly the Director of Multicultural Affairs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Coordinate the Excellence in Mathematics, Science and Engineering program (EMSEP) program. This includes planning and implementing the pre-orientation program, academic excellence, personal development, and skill building workshops throughout the academic year. Evaluate program success through formal assessment and benchmarking. Support EMSEP organization throughout the academic year in an advisory role.
-Review academic progress of diverse students. Based on assessment of student needs, set annual goals and work with Academic Advising and Student Affairs to develop programs and services aimed at enhancing student success.
-Serve as an advocate for diverse populations on campus in support of an inclusive campus community. Provide support to departmental advisory boards as needed, including the Diversity and Women's Advisory Board.
-Assist the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Offices in the recruitment of prospective students. Help to support diverse student recruitment through targeted campus programs and activities as well as electronic and hard copy communications.
-Work with Career Development Center in supporting and expanding internship opportunities. Collaborate with faculty and with the Graduate Studies Office to develop REU opportunities.
-Assist in the development and coordination of programs for the OASIS cultural center.
-Provide significant support and oversight to diversity-oriented student organizations. Track student organization expenditures, budgets, conferences and other related activities.
-In collaboration with the Director of Multicultural Affairs, review and revise all print and electronic communications in support of diverse populations and to promote an inclusive campus environment. Maintain and update departmental web pages.
-Work with the Director of Multicultural Affairs to develop and disseminate annual report reviewing key initiatives, effectiveness, recommendations and future objectives as they relate to the support of diverse student populations at WPI.
-Assist in the hiring, training, and supervising student staff as needed.
-Serve on campus wide committees as appropriate. Attend regularly scheduled department and division meetings.
-Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other campus offices and departments to ensure high quality services for students.
-Other duties as assigned.
-Bachelor's degree required.
-Experience working in higher education administration and/or with students in STEM disciplines highly desirable.
-Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development of collaborative programming both internal and external to an institute of higher education.
-Demonstrated skill in establishing good working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
-Excellent written and oral communication required.
