The Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) works under the general direction of the Senior Vice Provost for Resource Management, overseeing all financial matters including budget preparation, budget management, planning and expenditure monitoring, and budget recommendations to assure financial stability and fiscal health. The AVP advises the Executive Vice President and Provost and Senior Vice Provost on budget and financial matters affecting the academic component of the university and serves as a member of the executive administrative team for the Office of the Provost, providing leadership on behalf of and as delegated by the Provost and the Senior Vice President in all areas of academic resource planning, including personnel activities, in the Office of the Provost.
Oversee and direct university-wide projects and academic budget planning, providing leadership and direction for administrative and financial activities for the academic component of the university. Prepare and develop strategic financial modeling, reporting, analysis of accounts and balances, and preparation of reports, schedules, and surveys on academic budget data. Oversee academic budget planning and forecasting, through the development and analysis of revenue and expenditure forecasts. Oversee the preparation of five-year budget simulation documents for all colleges, schools, and units reporting to the Provost. Oversee the Provost's academic renovation budget. Responsible for impact studies on proposed and actual institutional policies affecting the Provost’s budget and the colleges and schools. Contributes to and disseminates policy information for all colleges and schools. Manage and track all financial commitments, including faculty hiring and retention commitments.
Serve as the Chief Business Officer for the Office of the Provost. Oversee portfolio policies and serve as approving official with delegated authority. Oversee administrative activities, including financial and HR, within the Office of the Provost that includes the direct supervision of key office personnel who work on a wide variety of activities as assigned. Represent the Provost on numerous committees related to university processes. Serve as custodian of the budget and accounts of the Office of Provost. Oversee distribution of funds and commitments from various accounts. Assist all Colleges and Schools, as well as other units reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost, with budget and financial matters. Oversee the annual budget preparation process. Prepare budget instructions, review, and analyze operating budgets. Serve as liaison with the Colleges and Schools and with the Budget Office on budget, accounting, and information management matters. Evaluate systems and processes and creatively improve and redesign systems and build efficiencies.
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field. Ten years of experience with planning, forecasting, cost and financial analysis, budgetary management, accounting and reporting in higher education. Experience in providing financial and budgetary information from a variety of sources. Previous experience working with an enterprise resource planning administrative application. Ability to manage a wide array of projects simultaneously. Experience making complex administrative decisions while considering the political and academic impact of such decisions. Experience working independently and in setting and maintaining priorities and goals. Experience working effectively with other executive level administrators developing processes and procedures to accomplish administrative tasks. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and perform tasks accurately. Experience with financial/budget management systems, financial software, spreadsheet applications, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience supervising and mentoring of service-oriented staff.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Well-developed skills working effectively with all levels of administrative offices; ability to communicate with all levels of personnel and offices so that the UT Austin mission is successfully accomplished; good knowledge of financial impact on a wide array of issues. Thorough working knowledge of the budget of UT Austin. High level of proficiency with the DEFINE system. Demonstrated proficiency with creating financial reports and providing financial analysis. At least 7 years of experience in in the areas of human resources, financial administration, and internal control procedures.
$200,000 + depending on qualifications
