Seeking PART-TIME Master Teacher for early childhood classroom at the Priscilla Pond Flawn Child and Family Laboratory (Lab School) at the University of Texas at Austin. Master Teacher is responsible for creating developmentally appropriate learning environments, creating and implementing a play-based, emergent curriculum, conducting on-going, authentic assessments (portfolio-based) of development, and communicating regularly with families about their children.
The Priscilla Pond Flawn Child and Family Laboratory is sponsored by the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) in the School of Human Ecology. The Lab School is an educational, research, and service facility for university students, faculty and the community at large. It provides a setting in which university students may observe, participate, and study children under the supervision of trained master teachers. It serves as a facility for research in HDFS and related fields. It is a model program of high quality, early education for children ages 18 months through 6 years that fosters development across the five basic developmental domains: emotional, social, language, cognitive, physical and motor. It is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. The program helps parents, families, students, researchers, and the public gain a greater understanding of how children develop and learn.
Responsibilities: Organizing and managing daily classroom routines and tasks. Creating developmentally appropriate learning environments. Creating and implementing a play-based, emergent curriculum to promote development across all domains for young children. Conducting on-going, authentic assessments (portfolio-based) of children's development. Maintaining TDFPS licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards. Modeling best practices in child development, early childhood education, and positive guidance for UT students and observers. Supporting, supervising, and assessing graduate and undergraduate students and classroom volunteers. Educating Lab School families about child development and supporting them in addressing individual family and child needs. Planning and facilitating on-going educational seminars for Lab School families. Participating in Lab School and university events throughout the school year. Participating in on-going professional development. Representing the Lab School, including presenting at local, state and national conferences. Assisting with administrative duties as assigned. Collaborating with colleagues to expand and realize the vision of the Lab School.
A minimum of a Master's Degree in Child Development, ECE, or a related field. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in early childhood education and child development. Experience teaching young children. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills. Thorough understanding of current licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards. Ability to support and evaluate lab experiences of graduate and undergraduate students. Evidence of competence in teaching and supervising adult learners.
