Florida’s newest state university is looking for exceptional candidates to serve as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES: Dedicated to preparing students for the competitive high-tech workforce, Florida Polytechnic University takes a hands-on, problem-based approach to academics and partners with more than 70 industry-leading firms to provide relevant, real-world learning opportunities. Industry partners include Microsoft, Cisco, Harris Corporation, Bright House Networks and Mosaic. Florida Polytechnic University offers six undergraduate and two master’s degree programs with 19 areas of concentration, including the rapidly advancing fields of Cyber Gaming, Cyber Security, Nanotechnology, Big Data Analytics and Machine Intelligence. The position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer is brand-new to Florida Polytechnic University, offering a unique, entrepreneurial opportunity to build a creative finance strategy and department from the ground up. The VP and CFO reports directly to the President, serves on the executive leadership team and is responsible for developing innovative finance approaches to funding campus build-out, creating new monetization opportunities and managing administrative and finance operations for the entire organization. This is an opportunity for a visionary financial leader to go beyond traditional operating models and drive advancement for Florida’s newest state university. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Partner with the President on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the President based on financial analysis and projections, cost allocation, and revenue/expense analysis. • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with Florida Polytechnic’s strategic plan and future vision. • Engage other members of the senior management team to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections. • Collaborate with partners both internally and externally on fundraising and development operations. • Develop forecasts for the University that accurately anticipate risks and opportunities including return on investment and opportunity cost analyses for new and current programs as well as for other institutional initiatives. • Develop an entrepreneurial direction for the University in an increasingly dynamic higher education environment. • Oversee and ensure that the Budgeting, Accounting, Purchasing, Business & Auxiliary Services, and Student Accounts are operating efficiently, are accessible and user-friendly operations with open and effective channels of communication with faculty, staff and other administrative units. • Oversees the facility planning and maintenance operations of the University to include anticipating and identifying long-term facility needs. • Together with the President, oversees the acquisition of land and capital improvements to meet future University needs. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Ability to work independently and within a team environment. • Ability to interact and comfortably work with the senior leadership team. • Ability to make well-reasoned and timely decisions. • Skill in exercising a high degree of leadership, initiative, judgment, discretion, conflict resolution and decision-making skills to achieve University objectives. • Ability to communicate clearly and to maintain strict confidentiality. • Ability to analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations in order to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed. • Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions. • Must have strong analytical and strategy development skills. • Foster and cultivate business opportunities and partnerships. • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources. • Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investments of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations. • Demonstrated leadership ability. • Ability to manage all stakeholder relationships with a 360-degree management style. • Ability to articulate financial implications and realities as well as advocate with the various stakeholder groups. • Exceptional ability to select the right human resources and to maximize the existing resources, both human and other, on a holistic basis. • Ability to be the primary representative on day-to-day financial matters with the State University System and the Board of Governors. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Master’s Degree in Finance or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution and/or CPA required and a minimum of five years administrative experience in public education. • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related discipline and a minimum of ten years of administrative experience may be accepted in lieu of a master’s and/or CPA. • Experience in and knowledge of financial management practices in higher education or a large government or business entity. Preferred: • Previous experience in an entrepreneurial capacity. • Previous background in the financial industry. • Previous experience in the field of real estate.
