The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School. The Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School is the senior academic and administrative officer of the school, serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Council, and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Vice Provost and Dean works collaboratively with the Provost and other Deans to promote and support academic excellence in the graduate education provided at UTSA. Primary duties include promoting academic quality and graduate student success, supporting student and faculty research, leading graduate student recruitment efforts, expanding the number of graduate programs, and serving as the primary liaison in communicating and collaborating with administrators, faculty, students and other constituents of the university on graduate education. Within the Graduate School, the Vice Provost and Dean directs all core functions of the Graduate School, including administrative operations, planning, policy and program development, marketing, and student admissions and recruitment. The University of Texas at San Antonio was founded in 1969, and is the third largest component of The University of Texas System. UTSA has been rapidly growing for much of the last decade and has gained national and international prominence as a research institution. UTSA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and ranked by the Carnegie Classification System as Research University-High Research Activity. UTSA has been recognized as one of the top 100 universities worldwide under 50 years old by the Times of London Higher Education. UTSA is an innovative metropolitan university with multiple campus locations serving a diverse student body from across the nation and the world. More than 29,000 students are enrolled in 66 bachelor’s, 52 master’s, 24 doctoral, and 20 graduate certificate programs offered by nine colleges and schools, including the Graduate School, Architecture, Business, Engineering, Education & Human Development, Liberal & Fine Arts, Public Policy, Sciences, University College and the Honors College. Currently, over 3200 master’s and 800 doctoral students are enrolled. The Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School will require significant experience in senior management leadership roles. Successful candidates are expected to have a terminal degree, a distinguished record of scholarship, and qualify for tenure at the full professor level in an academic department at UTSA. Tenure is contingent upon the approval of the UT System Board of Regents. Additional desired qualifications include: •A solid record of visionary, innovative leadership in higher education or comparable professional arena; •An established background as an exceptional teacher and scholar; •Outstanding communication and leadership skills to assist UTSA in becoming a Tier 1 institution; •Demonstrated administrative, budgeting, and governance skills; •Interest and ability in fund raising and other activities intended to enhance the academic and financial strength of UTSA graduate programs; •Proven ability to relate effectively to a variety of internal and external constituencies; and •Commitment to the promotion and support of diversity and inclusion activities.
