Position Summary: As a part of the MSU Extension Agriculture/Agribusiness Institute (AABI) this position provides leadership and oversight of local programs in Leelanau County, including planning, development and delivery of Consumer Horticulture educational programs and communication of information to home gardeners; works with faculty, specialists, and field-based educators to identify and convey effective, efficient and environmentally-sound consumer horticulture practices; oversees and ensures program/project promotion and expansion activities; assists with data gathering for impact evaluation efforts; and works in conjunction with supervisor, program participants and community partners to attain both short-term and long-term goals and objectives. Through supervising educator, works in concert with the appropriate MSUE Institute and/or work team(s), including the state-wide Extension Consumer Horticulture team, to ensure alignment of programs with overall goals of work team, Institute and organization.
Faculty: Minimum Qualifications
Support Staff: Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in field of study related to horticulture, entomology, plant pathology or crop science; two years of experience in program management and delivery in horticulture or demonstrated ability and skill in educational program programming; knowledge of horticulture practices; proficient computer operation skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); and effective oral and written communication skills. Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long distance travel is required as a regular part of this position. Typing Requirements (wpm):
Desired Qualifications: Completed course work toward a Master's degree in a field of study related to horticulture; three years experience in horticulture program administration and delivery.
