Professor/Coordinator, Emergency Medical Service Professions

Box 9020; Tyler, Texas 75711 JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a full-time twelve-month Tyler Junior College position responsible to the dean, professional and technical programs and supervisor, emergency medical service professions for the following: 1. Delivering high quality instruction in the emergency medical service professions program. May involve teaching day and evening classes. May involve travel to clinical affiliates. 2. Active involvement in curriculum revision and evaluation, textbook selections, and course outlines. 3. Teaching courses and serving as role model for faculty members in the department. 4. Obtaining on-line course certification and developing courses to be taught on-line. 5. Coordinating a plan that ensures department effectiveness and the department’s CoAEMSP accreditation as appropriate in cooperation with the department chair. 6. Coordinating and executing a plan that ensures quality instruction in cooperation with the department chair. 7. Coordinating course and department articulation. 8. Recruiting students for the emergency medical service professions program and representing the department in the community. 9. Coordinating all program related assignments to meet applicable deadlines. 10. Coordinating program advisement, scheduling, and registration processes, including summer registration, in cooperation with the department chair as required. 11. Coordinating department-specific professional development and ensuring follow-up of professional development activities in cooperation with the department chair. 12. Maintaining State-required certifications in area of responsibility. 13. Ensuring compliance with any State and federal laws which may apply to the department, its courses, or to its faculty. 14. Assuming duties, including committee membership and research, as assigned. 15. Maintaining appropriate office hours. 16. Performing other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: 17. Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Service Professions required. Bachelor's degree preferred. 18. Texas certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic required. 19. Minimum of three years’ experience in pre-hospital emergency care required. Extensive pre-hospital emergency department and/or flight experience preferred. 20. Certification as an instructor in one or more of the following: 21. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) 22. Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) 23. Pediatric Emergency Pre-Hospital Provider (PEPP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) 24. Texas State Department of Health Services certification as an EMS Instructor required. 25. Obtain Texas State Department of Health Services certification as an Advanced Coordinator within three years.
